AMD’s 2024 product brief rates the NPU at up to 16 TOPS and total processor performance at up to 39 TOPS. Those are peak vendor specifications—not measured generative-AI speed, proof that a particular model runs on the NPU, or a guarantee of a specific result.
The 8000 Series was new when AMD announced it in 2024, but it is not the company’s newest embedded AI family: AMD announced Ryzen AI Embedded P100 in 2026. The 8000 Series remains relevant as a component for system designers considering local inference, provided they check the exact model, platform and software support.

What the Ryzen Embedded 8000 Series is
AMD describes the 8000 Series as its first embedded processors to integrate an NPU based on XDNA alongside CPU and GPU compute. The family uses Zen 4 CPU architecture and RDNA 3 graphics. AMD’s 2024 brief specifies TSMC 4nm fabrication and FP7r2 BGA packaging. It is an embedded component for OEM system designs, not a conventional socketed desktop CPU.
AMD names industrial PCs, automation, machine vision and robotics as target uses. The family can provide CPU, graphics and AI-inference resources in one processor, but the balance and sustained performance depend on the selected model and the system’s power, cooling and software configuration.

Models and published specifications
AMD’s 2024 product brief lists four models. The figures below are published specifications, not independent benchmark results.
| Model | CPU cores / threads | Nominal TDP and configurable range | Maximum boost clock |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ryzen Embedded 8845HS | 8 / 16 | 45W; configurable 35–54W | Up to 5.1 GHz |
| Ryzen Embedded 8645HS | 6 / 12 | 45W; configurable 35–54W | Up to 5.0 GHz |
| Ryzen Embedded 8840U | 8 / 16 | 28W; configurable 15–30W | Up to 5.1 GHz |
| Ryzen Embedded 8640U | 6 / 12 | 28W; configurable 15–30W | Up to 4.9 GHz |
AMD’s product page lists 8–12 GPU compute units across the family. The brief specifies dual-channel DDR5-5600 memory with ECC support and up to four independent 4K displays; AMD’s product page lists support for four 4K displays at 60 Hz. For an actual design, confirm memory, display and I/O support against the specific processor and platform documentation.

What the TOPS figures do—and do not—tell you
AMD rates the 8000 Series NPU at up to 16 TOPS and says total processor performance scales up to 39 TOPS. These are AMD’s peak hardware ratings in its 2024 brief. TOPS can help describe nominal compute capability, but it does not state how many generative-AI tokens a system will produce per second, how quickly it will respond, or how accurately it will answer.
Nor does a total-processor rating mean every workload executes on the NPU. A real application may use the CPU, GPU, NPU or a combination, depending on its software and model support. The reviewed AMD materials do not establish performance, power draw or accuracy for a particular generative model on these processors.

- Processor provides dependable and fast execution of tasks with maximum efficiency.Graphics Frequency : 2200 MHZ.Number of CPU Cores : 8. Maximum Operating Temperature (Tjmax) : 89°C.
- Ryzen 7 product line processor for better usability and increased efficiency
- 5 nm process technology for reliable performance with maximum productivity
- Octa-core (8 Core) processor core allows multitasking with great reliability and fast processing speed
- 8 MB L2 plus 96 MB L3 cache memory provides excellent hit rate in short access time enabling improved system performance
Software and application fit
AMD’s brief says the SDK supports Microsoft Windows and names PyTorch and TensorFlow, with pretrained models available on Hugging Face. That identifies relevant ecosystem components, but it is not evidence that every framework model—or a particular generative-AI model—can run on the NPU. Before choosing hardware, verify that the intended model, runtime and operators are supported on the intended engine, then test the complete application on the target system.
AMD’s current Ryzen Embedded family page lists a MulticoreWare automated retail checkout solution based on Ryzen Embedded 8000. That is an AMD-listed case study, not an independent performance validation. AMD also links to industrial control and automation and industrial-PC applications.

How to evaluate an 8000 Series design
- Match the power envelope to the workload. The U models have configurable 15–30W TDP ranges; the HS models have configurable 35–54W ranges. Select a system with cooling appropriate to its intended operating conditions, and assess sustained performance rather than relying only on maximum boost figures.
- Map the application to CPU, GPU and NPU. Confirm which processor engines the software can use and whether the desired model is supported. Do not assume the NPU rating predicts whole-application performance.
- Check memory and platform I/O. AMD’s 2024 brief specifies dual-channel DDR5-5600 with ECC support and 20 lanes of PCIe Gen4. AMD’s current family summary instead displays up to 20 PCIe Gen5 lanes for the 8000 Series. Because those AMD materials conflict on PCIe generation, verify the exact processor and platform documentation before designing around a lane-generation claim.
- Confirm display and media requirements. AMD states support for up to four independent 4K displays and hardware AV1/H.265 encode and decode. Check the exact platform’s output configuration and capabilities for the intended system.
- Consider lifecycle and supply separately. AMD’s 2024 brief describes planned availability of up to 10 years and marks the models for extended 10-year longevity. That is AMD’s stated lifecycle intention, not confirmation of current stock in a particular region or sales channel.
Where the 8000 Series sits in AMD’s current portfolio
AMD announced its Ryzen AI Embedded P100 portfolio in a 2026 newsroom release, describing up to 50 AI TOPS and positioning it for automotive, industrial and physical-AI experiences. This is successor-family context, not a directly comparable performance result: TOPS alone cannot establish how a specific 8000 Series and P100 configuration will perform on a given workload.
For readers looking for hardware, the relevant search terms are “AMD Ryzen Embedded 8000 processor” and the exact model name, such as “Ryzen Embedded 8845HS.” Since these are BGA embedded components intended for OEM designs, a compatible embedded board or complete industrial PC is a more natural route than treating the processor as a consumer CPU upgrade.
