Crashes, No Sound, or Screen Glitches?

The Hackster News project describes an infrared sensor for detecting a bottle at the filling position and a 20×4 LCD for showing status. Its account says the machine fills all ten bottles in less than a minute, but gives no test conditions or bottle capacity, so treat that as the project’s claim—not a verified performance benchmark.
How the ten-bottle filling machine works
The Hackster News build combines bottle positioning, fluid delivery, and basic status monitoring. A stepper motor turns a carousel holding ten bottles. Fluid travels from a central reservoir through a pump, which the Arduino switches using a relay. An infrared sensor checks whether a bottle is beneath the dispensing point, while a 20×4 character LCD displays job status. Read the Hackster News project description.
The reported fill time—under one minute for ten bottles—does not come with a stated bottle volume, fluid, pump flow rate, measurement method, or independent test. It cannot establish how quickly another build would operate or how consistently it would fill each bottle.
What components the project identifies
The account names component types, but not enough model and specification details to reproduce the machine from the description alone.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Part | Role described | What is not specified |
|---|---|---|
| Arduino Uno | Controls the machine | Board revision and exact control implementation |
| Custom shield | Provides voltage regulation and a stepper driver | Schematic and electrical ratings |
| Stepper motor | Turns the bottle carousel | Motor model and drive details |
| Carousel and 3D-printed frame | Holds and positions ten bottles | Dimensions and material specifications |
| Pump and relay | Moves fluid from the central reservoir; the relay switches the pump | Pump voltage, flow rate, relay rating, and fluid-compatible wetted materials |
| Infrared sensor | Checks for a bottle at the dispensing position | Sensor model and behavior when a bottle is absent |
| 20×4 character LCD | Displays status information | Exact module and displayed messages |
These are component categories rather than a complete bill of materials. In particular, the description does not establish that the pump or any fluid-contacting part is suitable for a particular liquid.
How this carousel differs from other ten-bottle designs
Projects that fill ten bottles do not necessarily use the same mechanism. A separate GitHub repository describes a linear actuator operating syringes fitted with check valves; that is a different fluid-metering and motion arrangement, not a specification for the Hackster carousel. See the syringe-based GitHub project.

| Design | Fluid delivery | Bottle handling and motion | What the description establishes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hackster carousel | Shared reservoir and pump switched by relay | Stepper rotates a ten-bottle carousel; IR sensor checks the fill position | Arduino Uno, custom shield, pump, sensor, and LCD are named; controlled accuracy and reliability are not reported |
| GitHub syringe design | Syringes with check valves, operated by a linear actuator | Linear actuator operates the syringe mechanism for ten bottles at a time | The mechanism is described; comparative throughput, accuracy, cost, and reliability are not established |
A separate Circuit Digest project describes a conveyor, solenoid valve, IR sensor, and stepper motor using timed dispensing. It is another architecture, not independent confirmation of the Hackster machine’s design or speed. See Circuit Digest’s automatic bottle-filling system.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Fluid and contact materials: Check compatibility for the liquid, tubing, reservoir, pump, seals, and nozzle. The project description does not establish food, pharmaceutical, hazardous-fluid, or production suitability.
- Target volume and repeatability: Decide how much each bottle should receive and how you will verify that amount. The reported fill time is not a measure of fill accuracy.
- Pump and electrical ratings: Match the pump, relay, power supply, and control electronics to their required voltage and current. The source does not name ratings or a pump model.
- Positioning and missed bottles: Determine what the controller should do if the sensor does not detect a bottle, and how the carousel should index without spilling.
- Cleaning and access: Plan how fluid-contact parts can be inspected, drained, and cleaned; the account does not document a cleaning procedure.
An Arduino Uno board is the named controller, and the description also supports looking for a stepper motor and driver, an IR object sensor, a pump with a relay, and a 20×4 LCD. Those are search categories, not tested product recommendations; compatibility depends on the final electrical design and fluid requirements.
