To stop break reminders interrupting focus, first identify which app or feature sent the alert. Turn off or reschedule the reminder in that app; if it has no suitable control, silence that app’s notifications in your device settings. Focus and Do Not Disturb are temporary filters, and their exceptions may still allow reminders through.
Identify what is sending the reminder
Check the notification’s name or icon, or open the app that displayed it and look for reminder or break settings. An alert generated inside an app may not be controlled by your operating system’s notification settings. If you only need quiet during certain hours, use Focus or Do Not Disturb; to stop a recurring reminder altogether, change its setting at the source when possible.
Turn off the reminder in the app
YouTube on mobile
- Open YouTube and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Settings, then General.
- Turn off Remind me to take a break.
You can also open Profile picture > Time watched. When a break reminder appears, tap Change break reminder to change its frequency or turn it off. YouTube documents this setting for mobile app version 13.17 and later. Its help page says the setting is on by default for users aged 13–17 and off by default for adults; defaults may change. Silence reminders during focus time
Windows 11
For a lasting, app-specific change, go to Start > Settings > System > Notifications, select the app, and turn off its notifications. You can instead adjust whether it shows banners or plays a sound. For temporary quiet, turn on Do not disturb from Notification Center or configure a Focus session.

If a reminder still appears during Do not disturb or a Focus session, review Do not disturb priority settings. Windows can allow alarms, reminders, and selected apps through; remove the reminder app from the allowed list if appropriate. Microsoft describes Do not disturb as a way to silence notifications during critical times. Instructions: Manage notifications in Windows and Focus sessions in Windows 11.

Android
For a lasting change, open Settings > Notifications and look for the reminder app, or turn off the reminder inside the app itself. For a focus period, turn on Do Not Disturb and set a duration. Android’s Do Not Disturb controls can allow selected interruptions and block visual disturbances, so check its priority and display settings if the reminder remains visible.
Menu names and available controls vary by Android version and device maker. Google’s instructions cover controlling notifications on Android and managing interruptions with Do Not Disturb. Google describes one visual control as Block when screen is on, which prevents notifications from showing over the screen while you are doing something else.

Mac
Open System Settings > Focus, then select or create a Focus. Under Allowed Apps, make sure the reminder app is not permitted, and set a schedule if you want notifications filtered during regular focus hours. Focus can also allow selected people and time-sensitive notifications. If the alert is an in-app overlay rather than a macOS notification, change the app’s own reminder setting instead. If the reminder still interrupts you
- It appears inside the app: Find and change the app’s own break-reminder setting; device-level notification filtering may not suppress in-app overlays.
- It arrives as a system notification: Disable or adjust notifications for the sending app in system settings.
- It gets through during Focus or Do Not Disturb: Review allowed apps, priority interruptions, and visual-notification exceptions.
- You want quiet only at certain times: Schedule Focus or Do Not Disturb rather than disabling all notifications permanently.
