Yes. Windows can map a WebDAV server as a network drive using File Explorer’s Map Network Drive wizard or the NET USE command. The endpoint must be a WebDAV URL, the server must allow WebDAV and your account, and Windows’ WebClient service must be available. [Microsoft’s WebDAV Redirector guide]
Before you map the drive
- Ask the server administrator for the correct WebDAV URL, including its scheme and path, and confirm that your account has access.
- Make sure the endpoint is configured for WebDAV. A Windows SMB path such as
\servershareis not the same as a WebDAV HTTP or HTTPS URL. - Windows uses the WebClient service for WebDAV access. If that service is disabled or stopped, mapping may fail. [Microsoft’s WebDAV Redirector guide]
Map the WebDAV server in File Explorer
- Open File Explorer and choose This PC.
- Select Map network drive from the toolbar or context menu to open the wizard.
- Enter the WebDAV URL supplied by the server administrator in the folder field, then complete the wizard.
- If Windows asks for credentials, enter the account specified for that WebDAV server.

Map it from Command Prompt
Use NET USE if you prefer a command or need a repeatable mapping. Replace the example URL with the exact address provided for your server:
NET USE * https://server.example/path

Keep authentication secure
Use HTTPS, particularly if the server uses Basic Authentication. Microsoft warns that Basic Authentication sends the username and password in clear text over an unencrypted connection; its documented default allows Basic Authentication only for SSL sites. [Microsoft’s WebDAV Redirector guide]
Repeated credential prompts can also result from how Windows’ WebDAV redirector forwards credentials. Microsoft documents an administrator-configured AuthForwardServerList setting for matching URLs. It requires restarting WebClient after a change and can cause credentials to be sent automatically to listed servers, including internet hosts. An administrator should use it only for specifically trusted hosts, not broad wildcards; it is a targeted remedy, not a general fix for every login failure. Troubleshoot common mapping errors
| Symptom | What to check |
|---|---|
| Network name cannot be found (system error 67) | Confirm the server is running and configured for WebDAV, the URL and hostname are correct, and WebClient is running. If Basic Authentication is in use, check that the connection uses HTTPS. |
| Access denied (system error 5) | Verify the username and password, server authentication settings and the account’s permissions. |
| File cannot be accessed (system error 1920) | Check whether the account is missing an authoring rule on the WebDAV server. |
| Credentials keep being rejected | Check the hostname, proxy and server-side authentication and permissions. Credential forwarding may be relevant in some configurations; the documented URL-list setting is a narrowly scoped administrator remedy. |

Microsoft characterizes WebDAV mapping in this SharePoint context as slower and less reliable than OneDrive sync.
