1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteThe original Logitech MX Ergo can be converted from Micro-USB to USB-C with a replacement charging and power-switch PCB, but it is a hands-on hardware modification—not a plug-in adapter. The board is designed to preserve the original PCB’s outline and connections while making room for a larger USB-C receptacle. Expect component assembly or transfer, mouse disassembly, and some careful case trimming.
What this MX Ergo USB-C PCB changes
The project replaces the original MX Ergo’s charging and power-switch daughterboard. Its author reverse-engineered the OEM board and designed a replacement that retains the board’s functional role and fit intent while changing the charging port from Micro-USB to USB-C. Logitech lists Micro-USB for the original MX Ergo and USB-C charging for the later MX Ergo S, so this project addresses the original model’s port—not a missing feature on the S. The project page identifies the intended mouse as the MX Ergo trackball.
The design work involves more than swapping connector footprints. Hackaday’s account describes scanning the OEM board, tracing its outline in Fusion 360, checking fit with a 3D-printed mock-up, then tracing the circuit and transferring component information. Hackaday’s design overview provides that process context; the published files and design notes remain the project author’s reference for fabrication.
Design and fabrication details to check
Board thickness and current files
The project author specifies a 1.2 mm PCB. Use that thickness when ordering rather than assuming a standard thicker board will fit. The author says a later Gerber revision adds ESD traces and thicker power traces without changing the board’s function. Check the current Gerbers, BOM, and ordering notes before submitting a fabrication order; the project files page records an assembly-file update dated 2024-11-06. The project listing also offers bare-board and assembled-board paths and identifies the design under a CC BY-SA license.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Ordering settings matter as much as the files: confirm that the manufacturer’s selections match the design, particularly board thickness and assembly option. The project page notes that the person placing the order must review settings and that the manufacturer does not take responsibility for unsuitable selections.
Component-value qualifications
The author reports measuring OEM components and checking the included BOM against the original board. However, FB1 and L1/L2 values were not identified, so the project uses reasonable substitute values. The author also notes that the replacement flex connector functions similarly to the OEM connector but does not have its latch. These are the designer’s reported observations, not independent engineering validation. Review the current BOM and files before building, especially if you plan to source parts separately.

Choose an assembled board or a component transplant
The project provides two practical routes. An assembled board reduces the amount of small-part soldering and avoids transferring components from the OEM PCB. A transplant board costs more effort at the workbench: the project author says to install the new USB-C receptacle and resistors R4 and R5, then move the required original components over.
| Build path | What you do | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| PCB plus assembly | Order the board with assembly, then install it in the mouse. | Less component-level soldering and no OEM component transfer; availability and order settings depend on the current fabrication listing. |
| Bare/transplant PCB | Fit the USB-C receptacle and R4/R5, and transfer components from the original board as specified by the project. | More soldering and desoldering; the original switch or flex connector may be damaged during removal. |
For the transplant option, the creator’s video description identifies USB4125-GF-A-0190 for the USB-C connector and SG73P1EWTTP512J 5.1 kΩ resistors for R4 and R5. It also names PCM12SMTR as a replacement slide switch and 046227004100829+ as a replacement connector. The project author recommends ordering possible replacement parts for SW1 and J1 because desoldering can deform the originals. Confirm these designators and part details against the current BOM; part substitutions and supply can change. The creator’s video description is the source for those example part numbers.

Plan for case fitting and installation
A correctly assembled PCB may still need mechanical fitting. The USB-C housing is larger than the original Micro-USB connection, so the case opening and internal clearance can require adjustment. One installer reports enlarging the original port aperture with mini files and flush cutters and trimming internal plastic; the amount of material removal can vary with connector and assembly tolerances. The iFixit power-board guide covers removal of the original board, while the installer’s account describes the reported fitting work. Installer discussion
- Follow a full MX Ergo disassembly guide and keep the three power-board screws separate: iFixit notes they are shorter than the other screws. Watch for the power switch, which can come loose when the board is removed.
- Prepare the replacement board by either ordering the assembled option or completing the required soldering and transfers for a bare board.
- Before filing, dry-fit the replacement board and connector in the case. Check alignment with the exterior opening and internal surfaces.
- Remove only the material needed for clearance, using controlled cuts and small filing passes. Refit and check repeatedly instead of enlarging the aperture in one go.
- Validate the connections and basic operation before fully reassembling. The installer cited above reports doing this; it is a sensible check, not a guarantee of a successful build.
Keep small components secure and handle the board and flex connection carefully. The project author reports that the replacement flex connector lacks the OEM latch, so avoid treating the connector as mechanically identical during installation.

What has—and has not—been verified
The project author reports successful charging and operation checks with the replacement board. That is the creator’s verification, not independent product testing. The project also openly notes the unidentified FB1 and L1/L2 values and the unlatched replacement flex connector, so those qualifications should be weighed alongside the reported successful checks. Independent installation accounts describe fitting and connection checks, but they do not establish that every board order, component substitution, or case fit will behave identically.
Is this the right option for your mouse?
| Mouse | Charging port context | Does this project apply? |
|---|---|---|
| Original Logitech MX Ergo | Micro-USB, according to Logitech’s model comparison information. | Yes. The project is specified for the MX Ergo trackball. |
| Logitech MX Ergo S | USB-C charging; Logitech says the charging cable is not included. | No compatibility is established for the S model. The custom board should not be assumed to fit or work in it. |
Logitech’s official MX Ergo S product page identifies USB-C charging, while its product information distinguishes the updated model. If your mouse is already an MX Ergo S, this particular conversion does not supply a port upgrade you need.
