If your Epson projector turns off by itself, an inactivity setting may have put it into standby or switched off its lamp after a period without input. A separate timer or an overheating shutdown may also explain it. The exact settings and indicator meanings depend on the model, so start by identifying the model number and whether the projector entered standby, stopped displaying an image, or lost all power.
First, identify what “turns off” means
Note what happened when the picture disappeared: did the projector enter standby, did the image stop while an indicator remained lit, or did every power indicator go dark? Also note whether it had been idle, lost its input signal, or was in A/V Mute. These details help distinguish a timer from a power or temperature issue.
Find the model number on the projector and use its matching Epson manual. Menu names and timer behavior vary by model; the Home Cinema 2300 instructions below are not universal.
Check Sleep Mode and other timers
Sleep Mode is a likely explanation if the projector had been idle or had no input signal. On the Home Cinema 2300, Epson’s documented path is Extended > Operation > Sleep Mode; select Off to disable it. Other models may place the option elsewhere or use different labels. See the Home Cinema 2300 User’s Guide and check the equivalent section of your model’s manual.

Some Epson models also provide separate timers. They are not interchangeable, and their availability should be confirmed in the specific model’s settings:

The first three timer values above come from references for particular Epson settings or projector families, not a guarantee that every Epson projector has those settings. Consult the Epson settings-menu reference and, for the different shutter-equipped family, the Epson Extended Menu reference.

Check the status lights for overheating
A temperature-related shutdown is different from an inactivity timer. For the Home Cinema 2300, Epson says an orange temperature indicator means the projector overheated and turned off. Match the complete light pattern to the indicator table for your exact model rather than interpreting an unfamiliar light by color alone. Epson’s projector indicator-status reference applies to its specified model family.
If your model’s indicator table does not list the pattern, the Home Cinema 2300 guide advises turning the projector off, unplugging it, and contacting Epson. Do not infer a failed lamp, fan, or circuit board from an automatic shutdown alone.

If it will not turn back on
If the unit will not restart, check that its power cord is securely connected to the projector and to a working outlet. Epson lists this as a power-on troubleshooting check for the Home Cinema 2300; it is a sensible connection check, not proof that a loose cord caused a recurring shutdown. Its guide contains the model-specific instructions.

If disabling an applicable timer does not explain the behavior, or the projector repeatedly shuts down and the indicator pattern points to a problem, consult the manual and support information for your exact model. The available guidance here does not establish a hardware diagnosis for an unspecified Epson projector.
