There is no single figure for every Epson projector: the exact model, standby setting and, for some models, voltage region determine the rating.
Why Epson standby power varies
Standby is not necessarily one fixed state. Depending on the model, Epson manuals may distinguish settings such as “Communication Off,” “Energy Saving,” “Communication On,” “Network Standby,” “Shutdown” or “Suspend.” Keeping communication available can use more power than a reduced-communication state. The labels are not consistent across all models, so compare the settings named in the same model’s specifications rather than treating similarly worded states as automatically identical.
The figures below are manufacturer specifications for the named models, not independent measurements or an average for Epson projectors. Values are shown for the voltage regions specified by Epson.
| Model | Reduced standby state | Communication/network-enabled state | Voltage detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| EF21/EF22 | 0.5 W, Communication Off | 2.0 W, Communication On | Same values at 100–120 V and 220–240 V. Epson electrical specifications |
| EB-810E/EB-815E | 0.4 W, Energy Saving | 2.0 W, Network Standby | Same values at 100–120 V and 220–240 V. Epson electrical specifications |
| PowerLite 675W / 680 / 685W | 675W: 0.23 W at 100–120 V; 0.37 W at 220–240 V | 675W: 2.2 W at 100–120 V; 2.3 W at 220–240 V, Networked Standby | Regional values differ. Epson PowerLite 675W specifications |
| PowerLite 1266/1286 | 0.2 W, Communication Off | 1266: 2.0 W; 1286: 2.2 W, Communication On | Listed values apply to both voltage ranges. Epson electrical specifications |
| PowerLite 520/525W/530/535W | 0.22 W at 100–120 V; 0.28 W at 220–240 V, Energy Saving | 1.90 W at 100–120 V; 2.10 W at 220–240 V, Networked Standby | Regional values differ. Epson electrical specifications |
What the wattage means for electricity use
To estimate energy, multiply the standby rating in watts by the number of hours in that state, then divide by 1,000. The result is kilowatt-hours (kWh):
#1 Best Overall
- Display Stunning Images up to 300" — Widescreen picture four times larger than a 75" flat panel delivers an immersive experience for business presentations, home viewing and beyond
- Compact Design — Sleek, lightweight design easily fits in backpacks for easy portability on the go
- Ultra Bright Images — 3,000 lumens of color and white brightness (1) deliver outstanding-quality images in a variety of lighting conditions
- Best-in-Class Color Brightness (2) — Advanced 3-chip 3LCD technology displays 100% of the RGB color signal for every frame, allowing for outstanding color accuracy while maintaining excellent color brightness without any distracting “rainbowing” or “color brightness” issues seen with other projection technologies
- Compatible with Streaming — Connect your preferred streaming solution, such as an Apple TV, Roku, Amazon Fire TV or Android TV (3), to the built-in HDMI port to start streaming your favorite content—easy.
kWh = watts × hours ÷ 1,000
| Illustrative standby rating | 24 hours continuously in that state | 30 days continuously in that state |
|---|---|---|
| 0.5 W | 0.012 kWh | 0.36 kWh |
| 2.0 W | 0.048 kWh | 1.44 kWh |
These are calculated examples, not measured household results. They assume the projector stays at the stated rating continuously. To estimate cost, multiply the resulting kWh by your electricity rate; without your tariff, there is no universal cost figure.
How to find your projector’s exact standby rating
- Identify the exact model. Read the model label on the projector or check its menu or original documentation. A family name alone may not distinguish models with different specifications.
- Open that model’s Epson support page or user guide. Find the section called “Projector Electrical Specifications” or its equivalent.
- Match the standby condition. Look for the stated mode and whether communication or network standby is enabled. Do not compare a network-enabled value with another model’s energy-saving value as though the conditions were the same.
- Check the voltage region. Use the row for the applicable input-voltage range if Epson lists different values.
If you want to check actual draw in your setup, an optional plug-in electricity usage monitor can measure it at the outlet. Treat that as a measurement of your particular setup and state, not a substitute for identifying the model’s published rating.

Choosing between faster startup and lower standby use
The Epson LS800 illustrates the trade-off. Its guide says the Power Button Setting offers “Suspend,” which starts the projector quickly from standby, and “Shutdown,” which minimizes standby power use but takes longer to start. Epson lists 2.0 W for Suspend and 0.4 W for Shutdown on that model. These labels and figures are specific to the LS800; other Epson projectors may use different modes and ratings. The LS800 guide also advises turning the product off when it is not in use to prolong projector life. Epson LS800 User’s Guide
