Apple’s current model-specific guidance says MagSafe can charge the iPhone 12 mini at up to 12 watts when paired with a power adapter rated at least 9V/2.03A. That is a peak, not a rate the phone sustains throughout a charge.
How many watts does MagSafe charge an iPhone 12 mini at?
Up to 12W, according to Apple Support’s “How to use your MagSafe Charger with iPhone” page, published October 1, 2026. Apple specifies the 12W figure for iPhone 12 mini and iPhone 13 mini when using an adapter rated at least 9V/2.03A.
Apple also says the actual power delivered varies with the iPhone model, adapter wattage and system conditions. The 12W figure therefore describes the mini’s stated maximum under qualifying conditions, not constant power or a guaranteed charging time.
Why do some iPhone 12 specifications say 15W?
Apple’s iPhone 12 family technical specifications list MagSafe wireless charging up to 15W, without separating the mini in that general feature line. The current MagSafe support instructions are more specific: they name the iPhone 12 mini and set its peak at up to 12W with the stated adapter rating. For the mini, use that model-specific guidance rather than assuming every iPhone 12 model shares the family-wide maximum.

What adapter and setup does the 12W guidance require?
- Charger: Apple identifies MagSafe Charger model A2140 for iPhone 15 and earlier, which includes iPhone 12 mini.
- Adapter: To meet the mini’s stated 12W condition, use a power adapter rated at least 9V/2.03A.
- Connection order: Connect the MagSafe Charger to power before placing the iPhone on it. Apple says this lets the charger verify safe maximum power delivery. If you placed the phone on the charger first, remove it, wait three seconds, then place it back.
A more powerful adapter does not raise the mini’s stated MagSafe ceiling above 12W in Apple’s guidance.
How does MagSafe compare with Qi charging?
Apple’s iPhone 12 family specifications list Qi wireless charging up to 7.5W for the iPhone 12 mini. That is a separate charging standard and a lower stated maximum than the mini-specific MagSafe figure.

| Wireless charging method | iPhone 12 mini stated maximum | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| MagSafe | Up to 12W | Apple Support specifies at least 9V/2.03A for the mini (published October 1, 2026). |
| Qi | Up to 7.5W | Apple iPhone 12 family technical specifications. |
Why charging speed can vary
Wireless charging power changes with the phone, adapter and system conditions, so a peak rating cannot predict how long a particular charge will take. Apple notes that the iPhone or MagSafe Charger may become warm during wireless charging. If the battery gets too warm, software may limit charging above 80% until conditions improve.
