No. The standard Samsung Galaxy S23 does not support Samsung’s S Pen. Neither does the Galaxy S23+. In the S23 family, only the Galaxy S23 Ultra supports S Pen; its pen is stored inside the phone.
Which Galaxy S23 models support the S Pen?
| Model | S Pen support | Pen storage |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S23 | No | No built-in S Pen |
| Galaxy S23+ | No | No built-in S Pen |
| Galaxy S23 Ultra | Yes | Built-in slot that stores and charges the pen |
Samsung’s launch announcement says S Pen support is available only on the S23 Ultra, not the S23 or S23+. Samsung’s February 1, 2023 announcement and Samsung Support Philippines’ model-specific compatibility guidance make that distinction explicit.
Can you add S Pen support to a regular Galaxy S23?
No. Buying an S Pen does not enable the standard S23’s S Pen features. Samsung’s compatibility materials identify the S23 Ultra as supported; they do not identify the standard S23 or S23+ as compatible. An S23 Ultra replacement pen or S Pen Pro should not be treated as an add-on that makes a regular S23 an S Pen phone. See Samsung’s 2023 S Pen compatibility overview for the model distinctions.
A generic capacitive stylus is a separate accessory category. The cited Samsung compatibility information does not establish that one will reproduce S Pen writing, Air actions, or other S Pen features on the standard S23.

What does the S Pen do on the Galaxy S23 Ultra?
On the S23 Ultra, Samsung describes handwriting in Samsung Notes, Air actions, and Air command. The pen fits into the phone’s dedicated slot; inserting it pairs and charges it. Samsung’s S23 Ultra S Pen support page covers these functions and the built-in pen.
Which Galaxy S23 should you choose if you need an S Pen?
Choose the Galaxy S23 Ultra if integrated Samsung S Pen support is essential. The standard S23 and S23+ are not alternatives that gain this capability by adding a separately purchased pen.
