What a Pirate Bay proxy list actually tells you
A proxy or mirror list is a directory of alternate domains that claim to provide access to The Pirate Bay (TPB). The listing alone does not establish that a domain is reachable, genuinely connected to TPB, or safe to visit. A domain that loads may still fail to provide the expected service, and a directory entry is not an independent verification.
That distinction matters because the title “working” can mean different things: a page responds, the site appears to load, or the domain actually provides the claimed proxy service. Those are not equivalent. TorrentFreak’s May 2023 review found roughly 670 to 690 domains in its combined data, but said it could not determine that every apparently active domain was functioning as a proxy. Why mirror domains change or stop working
Proxy domains can be blocked too, and access can differ by country and over time. The U.S. Copyright Office’s 2011 policy discussion described earlier ISP-blocking actions against TPB in Italy, Ireland, and Denmark. It also considered technical limits of domain-name blocking and procedural safeguards such as notice, an opportunity to be heard, and narrowly tailored remedies. WIPO’s 2026 enforcement paper describes piracy services reappearing under new URLs and discusses proxy sites in the context of site blocking. It cites a UK order from 2015 that extended blocking to named proxy sites. What the available figures do—and do not—show
The Motion Picture Association’s 2025 submission to the U.S. Trade Representative reported, citing Similarweb, that TPB received 29.41 million visits from 7.34 million unique visitors in August 2025. The submission also said TPB was blocked in at least 22 countries. These are dated figures reported by an industry group and its cited traffic source—not October 2026 measurements, a neutral government count, or evidence that a particular proxy works. Likewise, “100% working” is not substantiated by these reports. Historical traffic, a domain appearing in a directory, or a page loading does not prove that a listed address currently functions as a TPB proxy.
Security risks and safer choices
Unverified domains can expose visitors to risks beyond a failed connection. WIPO’s 2026 paper repeats estimates from cited studies that users of piracy sites are 30 times more likely than users of legitimate websites to encounter phishing, malware, scams, and spam. The same paper cites studies estimating that 80 percent of piracy sites serve malware-infected ads and that one in four sites expose users to malicious content. These are secondary figures reported by WIPO, not new measurements by WIPO; they describe estimated risks, not a prediction about every domain or visit. WIPO’s 2026 paper

- Do not assume that a proxy is reachable just because it is described as “working.”
- For films, shows, or other media, use licensed services and check whether the specific title is available in your country; catalogs and terms vary.
