Your save and your right to play a PlayStation Plus catalog game are separate. A downloaded game’s save is stored on your console; a streamed game’s save is stored by PlayStation. When a catalog game leaves, access to the game ends—but PlayStation’s reviewed support guidance does not say how long a cloud save for that individual title is retained. Back up or verify your save before the game leaves, and do not assume the save itself keeps the game playable.
Where your save is stored depends on how you play

PlayStation documents copying saves between online storage, console storage, and game-streaming storage, but downloaded and streamed versions do not automatically transfer saves between one another. Follow the steps for the mode in which you played. See PlayStation Support’s save and transfer instructions.

What changes when a catalog game leaves
PlayStation says some catalog games have an end date. Once a game leaves the catalog, access to the game and its associated DLC or add-ons ends. A save file is progress data, not a game license, so keeping the save does not restore the right to launch the title. PlayStation’s PlayStation Plus games FAQ describes catalog availability and removal dates.
The reviewed PlayStation guidance does not specify whether, or for how long, a cloud save for an individual game remains available after that game leaves the catalog. It would be inaccurate to promise either immediate deletion or indefinite retention. If you may want to return to the game, make sure you have a copy you can access before the removal date.

How to back up or retrieve your save
For a downloaded PS5 or PS4 game
- On the console where you played, check that the save is present in console storage.
- Upload the save to PlayStation Plus online storage while you still have access to the console and the relevant membership benefit.
- On another console or later, use the saved-data controls to download the online copy to console storage.
For current menu paths and sync options, use PlayStation’s cloud-storage instructions; labels and available options can differ between PS5 and PS4.
For a streamed game
- Open PlayStation’s saved-data management options for streamed games.
- Copy the save from game-streaming storage to online storage.
- When needed, retrieve the online copy using the saved-data controls for the console and play mode you intend to use.
Do this before losing access to the game or the relevant save-management option. PlayStation documents these copy and download actions, but does not state a post-removal retention period for the title’s cloud save.

Cloud storage limits are not retention guarantees
PlayStation Support lists 100 GB of PS5 saved-data storage and 100 GB of PS4 saved-data storage, with a limit of 1,000 PS4 saved-data files. These are capacity limits, not promises about how long a save for a removed catalog game will remain stored. Check the current cloud-storage support page for the applicable details.

Having a save does not guarantee it will work with every version of a game. PlayStation’s documentation explains how to copy saves between storage locations and play modes, but that is not a universal compatibility guarantee across editions or platforms. Confirm that the version you regain access to supports the save you backed up.
