Gemini can work across Android apps in two different ways: through Connected Apps, which link Gemini to supported services, or through screen automation, a limited beta that interacts with selected app screens. Start with a specific request—such as “Add milk and eggs to my grocery cart” or “Send a WhatsApp message to Alex”—then check which method Gemini offers, review any plan or follow-up questions, and complete any confirmation it requires.
Choose the right way for Gemini to act
Connected Apps and screen automation are separate features, with different permissions and availability. Connected Apps provide permission-based links to supported services. Screen automation uses an on-device virtual phone environment to interact with selected app screens for multi-step tasks; it is a beta, not general control over every app installed on your phone. Google distinguishes it from both Connected Apps and Gemini Spark. Google’s Connected Apps overview and its screen-automation requirements describe the distinction.

Google does not publish a universal matrix showing every Android app and every action available through either route. When a request matters, check the app and action Gemini actually offers rather than assuming that an installed app is supported.
Check eligibility and set up screen automation
The screen-automation device and location list is time-sensitive. Google’s help page listed the following requirements on October 4, 2026; check its current eligibility page because the beta is rolling out and its supported devices or apps may change.

There is no need to enable screen automation to use a Connected App. For the beta, use this general flow; the prompts can differ by app and first-time setup:
- Open or activate the Gemini mobile app on your Android phone and describe the task in plain language.
- Answer any follow-up questions. If prompted on first use or for a particular app, allow the Google app’s screen-automation permission.
- Review or revise Gemini’s proposed plan if it shows one. Check the app, item, recipient, quantity, location, and other details before allowing steps to proceed.
- Complete any handoff or final confirmation Gemini requests, such as confirming a ride or purchase. Gemini may continue working in the background; use its progress controls to check on or stop a task.
Google describes daily request and simultaneous-task limits, but does not publish one fixed quota for everyone. It says Gemini will indicate remaining monthly requests as a user approaches a limit. The ability to take over a task varies by model; Google says Pixel 10 and Galaxy S26 users currently cannot take over tasks. Google screen-automation help.

Make requests specific enough to act on
Use an action, a destination, and the details that distinguish the right result. Gemini may ask for missing information; a short prompt is not a guarantee that it can complete every step without your input.
- Ride: “Book a ride to the airport.” Be ready to specify which airport or other trip details if asked, and review the ride before confirming.
- Groceries: “Add milk and eggs to my grocery cart.” Check the selected products and quantities in the cart before proceeding.
- Tasks: “Add a reminder to call the dentist tomorrow at 9 a.m.” If you have more than one task destination connected, name the one you want.
- Message: “Send a WhatsApp message to Alex: I’ll be there at six.” Verify the contact and message before sending if Gemini asks you to confirm.
- Travel or tickets: State the destination or event and relevant dates or preferences. Screen automation examples include flights and accommodations and buying tickets, but eligibility and app support still apply.
These examples describe the kinds of requests Google documents, not a promise that a particular app, booking, product, or transaction will be available to every user. Connected Apps can also support searching or playing media, calling or messaging, shopping, reservations, and supported device controls; availability depends on the connection and the user’s circumstances. Use Google Tasks or Samsung Reminder
For a task or reminder, name the destination in your prompt when you want to control where it goes. You can use @Google Tasks or @Samsung Reminder; if multiple task apps are connected and you do not specify one, Gemini defaults to the last one used.
- Google Tasks: Google Workspace must be connected to Gemini, and Keep Activity must be on.
- Samsung Reminder: Requires the Gemini mobile app, Samsung Reminder installed, and a Galaxy S25 or later or select Samsung devices running One UI 7 or later.
For example, ask “@Google Tasks add ‘send the invoice’ for Friday,” or name Samsung Reminder instead if that is where you want the item. These are app-specific requirements, separate from the eligibility list for screen automation. Google’s task and reminder instructions.

Know what Gemini can—and cannot—do with WhatsApp
The Gemini Android mobile app can make calls and send messages through WhatsApp, and you can write @WhatsApp to select it explicitly. A WhatsApp connection does not let Gemini directly read or summarize your WhatsApp message history, or send and read message media such as images, GIFs, audio, or video.
Reading or replying to WhatsApp messages from notifications uses Device assistance, not the WhatsApp Connected App. WhatsApp data is handled under WhatsApp’s own privacy policy. Google’s WhatsApp instructions and limitations.

Review consequential actions and protect sensitive information
Google warns that screen automation can misunderstand a request or an app, tap the wrong item, add the wrong quantity, make an unintended purchase, or report that a task is complete when it is not. Its guidance is: “Gemini is still learning and can make mistakes, so avoid using screen automation for emergencies or tasks involving sensitive information.” Do not enter passwords, payment details, or other sensitive information directly in Gemini chat. For some sensitive steps, Google says Gemini may hand control back or request confirmation. These include signing in, creating accounts, entering passwords or payment details, finalizing transactions, sending some communications, and changing details such as a delivery address. These safeguards do not eliminate every risk. The user remains responsible for actions and unexpected results, so inspect the proposed plan and important app screens and confirmations rather than relying on a completion message alone. Understand what connected services may receive
To fulfill a request, Gemini and Connected Apps may exchange chat content, device and preference information, location, and connected-app content. Connected services may handle information they receive under their own policies. Google also says messages created and sent with Gemini are not end-to-end encrypted by Google. You can disconnect apps and manage Gemini activity in Gemini’s data controls. Deleting Gemini activity does not erase data another app has already received, so disconnecting an app and deleting activity are not the same as withdrawing information already shared with that service.
