Maybe—if your problem with roguelikes is feeling powerless when luck turns against you. Dicevaders gives you ways to shape dice rolls, choose units and position them for tactical combinations. But it is still marketed as a roguelike deckbuilder, so players who dislike repeated runs and changing builds may not find the dice theme a way around that structure.

What you do in Dicevaders

Dicevaders is a single-player strategy game developed by Pengonauts and published by Playstack. It launched on September 29, 2026, and is listed for Steam and Nintendo Switch; the developer’s launch announcement also names Nintendo Switch 2. Steam describes it as a dice-based roguelike deckbuilder set in the StarVaders universe. Steam’s listing and Playstack’s game page outline a loop built around a turn-based grid, drafting units, placing them, collecting artifacts and pursuing synergies.

The dice are a source of uncertainty, but the official descriptions also emphasize tools for influencing what happens. Playstack says Chrono can reroll dice or restock the shop, while “budge” lets you shift a dice throw toward a desired combination. These tools give you decisions to make around a roll; they do not mean randomness disappears.

Does it address what you dislike about roguelikes?

If bad luck is your main objection

Dicevaders may be worth considering if you dislike runs where a poor roll seems to leave you with no useful choice. Rerolls, dice adjustment, drafting and unit placement all point toward steering a run rather than simply accepting each result. That is a reason to expect it may suit a strategy-minded skeptic, not proof that luck will never derail a run. The official descriptions do not quantify how much control players have in practice.

  • Dice for Multiple Games: You can use these 6 sided dice set to play a variety of games, including Craps, Backgammon, Boggle, Dungeons and Dragons, Tenzi, Liar's Dice, Farkle, Bunco, and many others.

  • Beyond Gaming: You can use these standard game dice not only for playing games but also for educational activities, decorations, placeholders, or craft projects.

If repeated runs are the problem

The roguelike structure remains central to the game’s identity: runs involve changing builds and discovering combinations. If you dislike replaying runs or experimenting with a new build, Dicevaders may still feel like the kind of game you avoid, even if you enjoy tactical board play.

If dice themselves put you off

The dice are not just a presentation detail. They are part of the game’s central decision-making, so players who dislike uncertainty of any kind may find them a persistent friction point. The control tools are a possible compromise, not a reason to expect a randomness-free strategy game.

How much content does the launch version list?

Playstack’s launch page lists 10 commanders, more than 60 units, 120 artifacts and more than 30 constellations. The developer’s launch announcement also lists six difficulties, 13 additional challenge modes, a true ending and daily challenges. These are publisher and developer launch claims; the counts indicate a menu of options, not an independent assessment of how much variety or replay value they deliver.

Should you buy it or try it first?

If the mix of tactical choices and managed randomness sounds appealing, look for a demo before paying. Steam’s listing showed a demo, but its availability after launch—and whether it is accessible in your region—has not been confirmed here. Check the live store listing before relying on it.
