Choose Switch for portable play or online sessions

Choose GoldenEye: Source for a fan-made multiplayer conversion
GoldenEye: Source is a fan-made multiplayer conversion inspired by GoldenEye, not a PC edition of the original campaign. Its FAQ describes the project as still in development. For Windows 11, it lists a minimum configuration of an Intel or AMD processor, DirectX 9 support, 8 GB of RAM and 10 GB of free disk space; it recommends 16 GB of RAM and a dedicated graphics card. Check the project’s current download and troubleshooting material for installation steps and updates. GoldenEye: Source FAQ.
Choose 1964GEPD for mouse controls and modding
1964GEPD is a specialist PC setup built around an N64 emulator for GoldenEye and Perfect Dark. Project materials describe mouse-control and mod possibilities, and the GitHub repository says the edition was considered feature-complete as of 2023. A creator’s setup guide demonstrates mouse-look and mod installation and explicitly states that ROMs are not included. Expect more configuration than with an official console release, and do not assume this setup provides the original game. 1964GEPD project repository · Creator’s setup guide.
Consider Goldeneye Recomp if you understand the file requirement
Tom’s Hardware reported on June 15, 2026, that developer SunJaycy released Goldeneye Recomp v1.0, a Windows recompilation of the canceled Xbox 360/XBLA version. The report lists controller support, online multiplayer, widescreen, graphics settings and filters, and a claimed stable 60 FPS. These are reported project features, not independently tested results. The repository does not contain the game code or assets, and users must source game files separately; the game was never publicly released. The report does not establish a legal route for obtaining those files. Read the report.
What “PC fan mod” means in this comparison
These PC options do different jobs, so they are not interchangeable editions. GoldenEye: Source is a multiplayer conversion. 1964GEPD is an emulator-based way to play and modify N64 games, with mouse-control options. Goldeneye Recomp is a reported recompilation of an unreleased Xbox 360 build and requires separate game files. If your goal is simply to play the original campaign through an official modern release, the Xbox and Switch editions are the relevant comparison.
