If you don’t recognize a Google Play charge, first verify the statement descriptor and compare the transaction with your Google Play order history and Google Payments activity. If it was made by someone you don’t know, report it to Google using the route for the payment method and act within the applicable deadline. If a friend or family member made the purchase, request a refund instead.
Confirm that the charge came from Google Play
Look at the exact text on your card or bank statement. Google Play charges commonly appear as “GOOGLE*App developer name,” “GOOGLE*App name,” or “GOOGLE*Content type,” such as Google Books. A statement charge that does not begin with Google is not from Google Play; contact your payment provider’s fraud department instead. See Google Play’s guidance on reporting charges and Google Payments’ unauthorized-charge guidance.

Check your Google Play order history and Google Payments activity, and review subscriptions. Not every Google payment or Google Pay transaction appears in Play order history, so check the relevant payments activity as well.
Rule out common false alarms
- A friend or family member may have made the purchase, especially on a shared device or account.
- A canceled order can still show a pending charge temporarily.
- A duplicate pending authorization may appear while a payment is being processed.
- A small temporary authorization can appear after you add a payment method.
Compare the transaction amount and status in your Google purchase history with the card or bank statement before reporting it.

- Google Play gift codes can be used on the Google Play Store, the official app store for Android, to purchase apps, games, and more.
- To redeem, enter code in the Play Store app or play.google.com.
- Endless games to explore: Find and play old and new favorites – from mind-bending puzzles to epic quests and more.
- Just the app you’re looking for: Millions of apps means millions of ways to get things done, learn something new, and maybe even meet someone special.
Choose the right route for the purchase
If someone you know made the purchase accidentally, use Google’s refund process rather than reporting it as an unknown transaction. Google distinguishes purchases made by a known person from charges made by someone you do not know; see its Google Play refund-policy guidance.
If neither you nor anyone you know made the purchase, follow the route for its payment method. Google’s deadlines below are the time windows in which it says it can take action, not a promise that a claim will be approved.

| Payment method | When to contact Google or the provider | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Credit card, debit card, or PayPal | Google says it can act only within 120 days of the transaction date. | Within that period, submit Google’s unauthorized-purchase form. File a separate claim for each payment method. If more than 120 days have passed, contact your card issuer or PayPal’s fraud department immediately. |
| Mobile-carrier billing | Google’s action window is 60 days. | Ask your carrier for the transaction’s correlation ID or request ID. If it provides a correlation ID, submit Google’s form; if it provides a request ID, contact the carrier’s billing-fraud department. After 60 days, contact that department. |
| eWallet | Contact the provider immediately. | Report the charge to the eWallet company’s fraud department. |
| Other payment type | Depends on whether you can access the Google Account. | If you can access it, contact Google Support. If you cannot, contact the payment method’s fraud department immediately. |
Google Play Help states: “Google can only take action on credit, debit, or PayPal transactions within 120 days from the transaction date.” The 120-day limit applies to those payment types; mobile-carrier billing has a separate 60-day window. See Google Play Help: Report charges you don’t recognize.
Submit and track an unauthorized-charge claim
- Open Google Play Help’s Report charges you don’t recognize page and choose the reporting option that matches your payment method.
- For card, debit-card, or PayPal transactions within 120 days, submit the unauthorized-purchase form. Submit one claim per payment method. For carrier billing within 60 days, first obtain the carrier identifier and follow the instructions for the identifier provided.
- Keep the email address used for the report and the Claim ID Google sends to it. Use both to check claim status.
- Watch for Google’s email update. Google says it is typically sent within seven business days; this is an update timeframe, not a guaranteed resolution time.
If you filed while signed in and later recognize the charge, Google provides an option to cancel the claim. Use the claim-status instructions associated with your report.

Secure the account if someone else may have access
If another person may know your Google Account password, or the device is shared, change or reset the password. Turn on Google Play purchase verification to help prevent future unauthorized purchases; Google describes these safeguards in its Google Payments unauthorized-charge guidance and Google Play reporting guidance.
