The Galaxy Z Fold7’s camera upgrade is confirmed, not just leaked: Samsung introduced a 200MP main camera, plus autofocus for the ultra-wide camera and new video features. Samsung also claims sizable improvements over the Fold6, but those comparisons are manufacturer claims rather than independent test results.
What changed in the Galaxy Z Fold7 camera system?
Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold7 on July 9, 2025, and said it would be generally available starting July 25, 2025. Those are its launch dates, not a guarantee of current availability. The camera specifications published at launch show three rear cameras and a 10MP camera on the main display.
| Camera | Confirmed specification | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Wide-angle rear | 200MP, Quad Pixel AF, optical image stabilization (OIS), f/1.7 | The main camera receives the headline resolution increase. |
| Ultra-wide rear | 12MP, Dual Pixel AF, f/2.2, 120-degree field of view | Autofocus enables close-up macro photography. |
| Telephoto rear | 10MP, phase-detection autofocus (PDAF), OIS, f/2.4, 3x optical zoom | Provides a dedicated optical zoom option. |
| Main-display front | 10MP, 100-degree field of view | A wide field of view is intended to include more in a selfie or video call. |
These specifications are from Samsung’s July 9, 2025 launch announcement.
How much better does Samsung say the main camera is?
Samsung says Fold7 main-camera images are 44% brighter and four times more detailed than images from the Galaxy Z Fold6. Its camera explainer also claims shutter speed is up to seven times faster than on the Fold6. These are Samsung-published comparisons from 2025; the cited materials do not provide an independent test method, so they should not be read as independently verified measurements.

The 200MP figure describes sensor resolution, not a guarantee that every photo will look four times better. Exposure, motion, focus, processing, and shooting conditions all affect a final image. Samsung also says its ProVisual Engine uses more than 160 AI-powered imaging technologies and processes images 27% faster than the Fold6; those are likewise company claims, not an independent assessment.
What do the ultra-wide, zoom, and front cameras add?
Ultra-wide autofocus and macro
Samsung says the 12MP ultra-wide camera’s autofocus supports macro photography. Its camera explainer also describes Dual Camera Depth Calibration, which switches between the wide and ultra-wide cameras at close range. The practical distinction is that the Fold7’s ultra-wide is not limited to distant, broad scenes: Samsung’s described autofocus system is intended to handle close subjects too.

Optical versus digital zoom
The telephoto camera provides 3x optical zoom. Samsung lists 30x Space Zoom as 3x optical zoom combined with 10x digital zoom and AI Super Resolution, and warns that image quality may deteriorate beyond 3x. Therefore, 30x is a maximum hybrid/digital reach, not 30x optical magnification.
Main-display selfie camera
The inner display camera is 10MP with a 100-degree field of view. Samsung says its photos are 25% wider and 2.5 times clearer than Fold6 front-camera photos. These are Samsung’s 2025 comparisons; the cited sources do not establish them through independent testing.

What video features does the Fold7 support?
Samsung’s camera explainer describes night-video noise reduction, 10-bit HDR recording, HLG support, LOG recording, HEVC recording, and on-device Samsung LUT color grading. LOG and LUT tools can matter to people who want more control over color in post-production, while HDR and night processing address recording and image-processing options. Feature availability alone does not show how footage compares with another phone; the cited materials do not include independent video-quality tests.
Samsung’s detailed feature descriptions are in its July 24, 2025 Galaxy Z Fold7 camera explainer.

Is the Fold7 camera upgrade meaningful?
The clearest hardware change is the 200MP main camera. Other confirmed additions and details include autofocus-enabled ultra-wide macro photography, a 3x optical telephoto camera, and a broader set of video options. Whether the phone takes better photographs in everyday use than another device cannot be concluded from resolution or Samsung’s comparison figures alone; the cited official sources document specifications and company claims, not independent comparative results.
