Update RuneScape: Dragonwilds before trying other fixes. Jagex’s September 29, 2026 version 1.0.0.6 patch restored Epic Games Store crossplay and fixed a crash affecting some players who chose Online play while offline. It does not claim to resolve every crash or connection problem. After updating, identify whether you are dealing with a crash, low frame rate, or trouble joining a world; each calls for different steps.

First, identify what is going wrong
- The game closes, freezes, or fails to launch: Treat it as a crash. Check for a relevant patch first, then report it if the issue persists.
- The game remains open but looks choppy or slow: Treat it as a performance problem. Jagex’s performance guidance is for PC versions.
- You cannot join or stay in a multiplayer world: Check the current patch notes and whether you are hosting or joining before changing network settings. A game bug can resemble a home-network problem.
When asking for help, note your platform, game version, number of players, whether you are the host or a client, and the exact error or point where the problem occurs.
Fix crashes and check for patch-specific issues
Update before trying workarounds
Install the latest available game update, then compare your symptom with Jagex’s recent notes. Version 1.0.0.6, published September 29, 2026, reports a fix for some users who selected Online play while offline. It also says Epic Games Store players were back online with crossplay restored. The earlier version 1.0.0.5 hotfix went live September 25, 2026, and addressed failures connecting to multiplayer servers with more than two players, including a case where Xbox clients could not join after two people were already in a world. Its notes also described an offline/Wi-Fi disconnect followed by a crash when choosing Play Online; the later 1.0.0.6 notes report a fix for some of those offline Online-play crashes. If a world is missing or corrupted
Jagex’s 1.0.0.6 notes said recovery work for already affected corrupted saves was ongoing and that some restored world saves might remain inaccessible. Preserve your current save data rather than deleting or overwriting it, and follow Jagex’s current support updates for save recovery. General graphics or network troubleshooting is not a save-recovery procedure.

If the crash continues
Check for a newer patch and report the persistent problem through Jagex Support. Include your platform, game version, what you were doing immediately before the crash, and any error message. For a PC crash, add your system specifications.
Improve low FPS on PC
Jagex’s PC performance guide recommends checking requirements, lowering video quality, closing unused applications, updating graphics drivers and Windows, and reviewing Windows power settings. - Compare your PC with Jagex’s listed requirements. The performance guide lists a minimum of 64-bit Windows 10 or later, an Intel Core i3-8100 or AMD equivalent, 8 GB RAM, an Nvidia GTX 1060 6 GB or AMD equivalent, and 25 GB of SSD storage preferred. Its recommended list specifies a Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel equivalent, 16 GB RAM, and an RTX 2070 8 GB or AMD equivalent. These are Jagex specifications, not independent performance benchmarks.
- Lower the Quality setting. From the Main Menu, open Settings → Video and reduce Quality. Check performance in the same area of the game afterward.
- Close applications you are not using. Background programs can compete for system resources. Close them before launching the game and see whether the problem changes.
- Update your graphics driver and Windows. Get graphics-driver updates from your GPU manufacturer, then check Windows Update.
- Review Windows power management. Jagex’s performance article also points to Windows power-management options. The exact setting names can vary by Windows version and device; consult Windows or your PC maker’s guidance if you are unsure.
Why Jagex’s requirement pages do not match exactly
Jagex publishes different processor and graphics-card lists on its performance and installation pages. Do not combine them into a single definitive set of requirements:

If the frame rate is still poor
If the problem remains after checking requirements and trying Jagex’s settings and update steps, it may be a game bug. Report it to Jagex Support with your PC specifications, game version, graphics settings, and where the slowdown occurs. If the issue is specifically online lag or disconnection rather than choppy rendering, use the connection steps below.

- Close unused applications and restart your PC. This is Jagex’s first local check.
- Restart your modem or router. Unplug it for at least 30 seconds, reconnect it, and wait for the connection to return.
- Try Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi. If you cannot use a wired connection, close other programs using the internet. A basic Ethernet cable is an optional way to test a wired connection; Jagex does not specify a brand or cable type.
- Reduce competing network traffic. Pause downloads and other background internet use on your PC, and check whether other devices in the household are using substantial bandwidth.
- Test without a VPN or proxy. Temporarily disable it to see whether it contributes to the problem. Re-enable it afterward if it is needed for your privacy or network access.
- Check for an ISP outage. Contact your internet service provider if the connection is unreliable beyond the game or there may be a local service interruption.
- Review firewall settings carefully. Jagex advises checking the router firewall and allowing Steam and its data through the PC firewall. If you do not know which settings to change, use guidance from your platform, router maker, or ISP rather than disabling firewall protection broadly.
- On Windows, refresh DNS and request a new IP lease. Open Command Prompt and run these commands in order:
ipconfig /flushdnsipconfig /releaseipconfig /renew
The commands above are Windows-specific. If the failure began after a game update, affects several players in the same world, or persists after local checks, report it to Jagex rather than making increasingly broad router or firewall changes.

A precise report helps distinguish a crash, PC performance problem, local connection fault, and multiplayer bug. Include the details that apply:
