Valheim is the closest broad match if you want co-op survival, exploration, crafting, base building, and boss progression. Choose Enshrouded instead if fantasy action-RPG combat, detailed construction, or room for a larger group matters more. Both share parts of RuneScape: Dragonwilds’ appeal, but neither reproduces its RuneScape lore and skill progression.

What makes RuneScape: Dragonwilds distinctive?

RuneScape: Dragonwilds combines survival-crafting with the setting and progression of RuneScape. Jagex describes it as an open-world game set on Ashenfall, a previously unexplored continent, where players explore, complete quests, level skills, use spells, prepare potions, craft equipment, and work toward the Dragon Queen. You can play solo or in teams of four. Jagex’s official Dragonwilds site and its full-launch announcement describe that mix of RuneScape flavor and survival play.

It is a distinct survival-crafting game, not a conventional RuneScape MMO. Jagex announced that the full release arrived on 15 September 2026 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. The launch included the Scorned Wilderness update and content from the Umbral Sands expansion. Jagex also reported over one million Steam Early Access sales in 2026; that is the company’s figure, not an independent player-count measure.

Valheim: the closest broad survival-crafting alternative

Valheim is the strongest starting point if what you value most is the loop of exploring, gathering materials, building a home base, preparing for danger, and taking on bosses with friends. Its Steam listing describes a collaborative survival and exploration game for 1–10 players in a procedurally generated world inspired by Norse mythology. Biomes, crafting, base construction, and regional boss progression give it a broad survival-sandbox identity.

The trade-off is setting and progression. Valheim is Viking-inspired rather than RuneScape fantasy, and its appeal is not built around Dragonwilds’ RuneScape skills, quests, spells, or lore. Its listed player range also allows groups larger than Dragonwilds’ four-player teams. GamesRadar+ called Valheim Dragonwilds’ clearest competitor in a 21 September 2026 post-launch impression; that is one publication’s assessment, not a universal ranking. Read the comparison.

  • FUN & EXCITING GAMEPLAY - Build defenses during the day to prepare for zombie chicken attacks at night! Gameplay flows between day & night cycles that will keep players on the edge of their seat!
  • GREAT FOR FAMILIES & FRIENDS OF ALL AGES - Zombie Chickens is the perfect card game for family game night, hanging out with friends, or playing solo in a round of zombie-fighting solitaire! 1-4 players, ages 9+, gameplay lasts around 35 minutes.
  • 3 WAYS TO PLAY! You can play Zombie Chickens as a COMPETITIVE, COOPERATIVE, or SOLO game! In the Competitive game, players battle to defend their farms from zombie attacks until the last player standing wins! In the Cooperative game, players band together to defend a single farm in hopes of surviving until a rescue party arrives! In the Solitaire game, 1 player battles hordes of zombie chickens to survive as many nights as possible!
  • SILLY YET STRATEGIC - Each zombie has 1 or more traits (flying, invisible, climbing, bulletproof, fireproof, timid, exploding) that you must overcome in order to defeat it. For example, a flamethrower is a great defense on your farm until a fireproof or invisible zombie comes along! So choose your defenses wisely and watch out for various events that can change the course of the game!
  • CAN YOU SURVIVE THE BOK-BOK-ALYPSE? Or will the zombie chickens prevail?

Enshrouded: choose it for fantasy combat and elaborate building

Enshrouded suits players who want survival crafting wrapped in a more overt action-RPG structure. Its Steam listing describes co-op for up to 16 players in the fallen fantasy realm of Embervale, with exploration, crafting, character builds, dodge-and-parry combat, and voxel tools for detailed construction. The larger listed group limit may matter if you regularly play with more than four people.

Its emphasis differs from Dragonwilds: the published feature set highlights action-RPG combat and flexible building rather than RuneScape’s recognizable skill-and-lore identity. The Steam listing still labeled Enshrouded Early Access at the time of the 4 October 2026 information used here and listed 15 October 2026 as its planned departure date. That date was still in the future, so it should be treated as a plan, not a confirmed completed release.

How to choose between them

  • Pick Valheim if the main draw is cooperative exploration, survival, building, and progression toward bosses.
  • Pick Enshrouded if you want fantasy action-RPG combat, more elaborate voxel building, or a listed group limit above four.
  • Stay with Dragonwilds if RuneScape’s world, skills, quests, magic, and progression are the features you most want to preserve.

“Survival crafting” covers different kinds of play. Before choosing, compare the player limit, whether the world is procedurally generated or handcrafted, how combat and progression work, what building tools allow, and whether the setting appeals to your group. These distinctions are more useful than assuming every game in the genre offers the same co-op experience.
