No confirmed evidence identifies the mysterious Radeon hardware as an RX 7950 XTX. The report describes an unusual cooler or shroud—not a verified, complete graphics card—and AMD has not publicly confirmed its model, specifications, or existence as a product.

What was reportedly found?

HotHardware reported on July 23, 2025, that an enthusiast bought what was believed to be an RX 7900 XTX shroud through a Chinese online marketplace and received a noticeably different cooler. The outlet attributed the discovery to a South Korean forum user and credited FP32 via Quasar Zone. This is secondary reporting; the original forum post and marketplace listing were not independently verified. HotHardware’s report

According to HotHardware’s description of the pictured item, the cooler has three fans, a triple-slot design, and measures about 34 cm (13.4 inches) long and 5.5 cm (about 2.1 inches) thick. The report also describes three openings for 8-pin PCIe power connectors, red aluminum accents, different LED cutouts and screw-hole placement from a retail RX 7900 XTX cooler, plus a copper baseplate and heatpipes. Those are the outlet’s reported details, not independent measurements.

That makes the object interesting evidence of an unusual Radeon-style cooler. It does not establish which GPU, if any, was meant to use it.

How does it compare with the retail RX 7900 XTX?

AMD’s official product page identifies the RX 7900 XTX as a desktop Radeon RX 7000-series card launched December 13, 2022. Its published specifications provide a useful point of comparison:

Specification Retail Radeon RX 7900 XTX Reported mystery cooler
Memory 24 GB, per AMD’s product specifications accessed October 4, 2026. AMD RX 7900 XTX specifications Not established by the cooler report. HotHardware report
Typical board power 355 W, per AMD’s product specifications accessed October 4, 2026. AMD RX 7900 XTX specifications Not established. HotHardware estimated more than 450 W from the reported connector openings and PCIe slot power; that is an inference, not an official rating or measured draw. HotHardware report
Power connectors Two 8-pin connectors, per AMD’s product specifications accessed October 4, 2026. AMD RX 7900 XTX specifications Three 8-pin connector openings, according to HotHardware’s description of the item. HotHardware report
Length and thickness 287 mm long and 2.5 slots, per AMD’s product specifications accessed October 4, 2026. AMD RX 7900 XTX specifications About 34 cm (13.4 inches) long and 5.5 cm (about 2.1 inches) thick, according to HotHardware; the outlet describes it as triple-slot. HotHardware report

The reported shroud is larger and has an additional power-connector opening compared with AMD’s listed RX 7900 XTX specifications. That supports the possibility that it was designed for a different board, but a cooler alone cannot confirm the intended GPU or the eventual card’s power draw.

Do three 8-pin openings prove it was a high-power GPU?

No. Connector openings can suggest how a designer expected to supply power, but they do not show how much power a card actually consumed. HotHardware’s greater-than-450 W figure is an estimate based on the three openings and power available through the PCIe slot—not an AMD specification or a measurement from an operating card. HotHardware report

Likewise, a large cooler is not a performance result. The cited report provides no benchmark, confirmed GPU die, official board-power rating, or published specifications for the mystery hardware.

Is the RX 7950 XTX real?

The RX 7950 XTX identity remains unverified. AMD’s official RX 7900 XTX and RX 7000-series pages document shipping products, not this alleged prototype. AMD RX 7900 XTX specifications · AMD Radeon RX 7000 Series

HotHardware says the prototype did not become a market product, but that report does not establish AMD’s internal development or cancellation history. No direct statement from AMD or a named engineer about the cooler appears in the cited reporting. The available evidence supports describing it as an unusual, reportedly prototype Radeon cooler—not as a confirmed RX 7950 XTX.

What should buyers compare instead?

The retail RX 7900 XTX is a real, documented comparison point; it should not be confused with the mystery item. When comparing actual graphics cards, use their official model identity, physical dimensions, connector requirements, specified board power, memory, and retail status. There is no confirmed second product here for a meaningful performance comparison.

The reported cooler dimensions do not identify a compatible replacement shroud, power supply, or PC case. Without confirmation of the underlying card and its final dimensions, those recommendations would be guesswork.
