A missing NFT image does not prove the NFT is gone. First check the correct wallet address and blockchain network in a block explorer; that shows whether the token is recorded at your address, while wallet and marketplace apps can fail to display assets because of settings, indexing, metadata, or compatibility issues.
1. Check the wallet address and network
Make sure the wallet account selected in the app is the address that should have received the NFT. Also identify the NFT’s network: an asset on one network will not necessarily appear when you are viewing another.
- Copy the receiving address from the wallet account you expect to own the NFT.
- Open a block explorer for the NFT’s network and search for that address.
- Inspect the address’s NFT holdings or transfer history for the relevant token.
If the expected transfer is absent from the relevant records, check with the sender to confirm they used the right address and completed the transfer. A wallet screen alone cannot establish whether the transfer reached your address.
2. Check the transfer transaction
If the NFT was sent recently, find the transaction hash in the sender’s activity or your wallet history and look it up on the appropriate explorer. Check whether the transaction is pending, failed, or complete, and verify the destination address and network. Network congestion can delay a transaction, but there is no universal wait time that applies to every chain or transfer.

A completed transfer to your address points to a display or compatibility issue rather than a transfer that is still pending. If the transaction failed or went to a different address, use the transaction record to clarify what happened before attempting another transfer.
3. If the explorer shows ownership, troubleshoot the wallet display
Wallet apps do not all detect or display every NFT in the same way. Check the app’s NFT display or autodetection settings first. If an asset is supported but not detected, the wallet may offer a manual import option.

MetaMask
MetaMask documents manual NFT import using the network, NFT contract address, and token ID. Its wallet can add ERC-721 and ERC-1155 NFTs, but display can still depend on available third-party data. These instructions apply to MetaMask; other wallets may use different controls or support different assets.
Keep the contract address and token ID from a reliable source, such as the explorer record. Do not connect your wallet to an unfamiliar site or sign a transaction merely to make an image appear.

4. Check the marketplace profile and Hidden items
A blank marketplace profile does not by itself mean you no longer own the NFT. Confirm that the marketplace is connected to the same wallet address shown as the owner on the explorer. If you use OpenSea, also check the profile’s Hidden area.
Marketplaces can hide or delist items from their service. That affects what appears on that marketplace; it does not necessarily remove an NFT from the blockchain. OpenSea explains that delisted items can still exist on-chain even when they are no longer visible there.

5. Allow for indexing or metadata problems
An app may not have indexed an NFT yet, or it may be unable to retrieve the metadata that supplies its image and other content. In either case, an ownership record can exist even when the app shows no image, incomplete details, or no item at all. MetaMask Portfolio specifically notes that indexing may not yet be complete and that access to metadata is needed to display an NFT’s content.
Use the explorer’s ownership and transfer information to distinguish a display problem from a change in ownership. If the explorer confirms ownership but the app still does not show the token, consult that wallet’s official help channel with the transaction hash, network, contract address, and token ID.

6. Consider wallet and token compatibility
Support depends on the wallet and the NFT’s type and format. For example, Coinbase Wallet’s help information notes limitations involving certain OpenSea lazy-minted ERC-1155 NFTs and some off-chain NFTs. That is a product-specific example, not a rule about every Coinbase asset or every wallet.
If an explorer confirms the NFT but your app cannot display it, check the wallet provider’s official compatibility guidance for that network and token type. Do not assume that importing an asset into one interface will make every app display it.
Stay safe around unsolicited NFTs
Blockchains can allow tokens to be transferred to a wallet without the recipient buying or accepting them. An unsolicited NFT may be used to lure recipients to malicious links. Do not follow links or visit websites advertised by an unfamiliar NFT, and do not share your recovery phrase or approve an unexplained transaction to investigate it.
