Outbyte Driver Updater FREEFix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Connect your phone or computer to the TP-Link extender, then open https://tplinkrepeater.net in a browser. The page is hosted on the extender, so internet access is not required. Once signed in, use the model’s settings to change its administrator password or wireless network details; these are separate passwords.
Open the extender’s local management page
- Connect to the extender. Turn it on and wait for it to finish starting. Connect your phone or computer to the extender’s Wi-Fi. For a first connection, use the network name and password printed on its label. If the extender has an Ethernet port, you can instead connect a computer to it with an Ethernet cable.
- Open the address in a browser. Enter
https://tplinkrepeater.netin the browser’s address bar—not the search box. TP-Link recommends Firefox, Chrome, or Edge. If the extender is at factory defaults and that address does not open, tryhttp://192.168.0.254/. - Use its current address if it has already joined your router. Find the extender’s IP address in the router’s connected-client list and enter that address in the browser. The factory-default address may not work after the extender has been configured.
TP-Link says a browser privacy warning can appear because the extender uses a self-signed certificate. For this local extender page, select Advanced and proceed to the page. This guidance applies to the extender’s own interface; it is not a reason to bypass certificate warnings on unrelated websites. See TP-Link’s extender login instructions.
Sign in or create the administrator password
On first access, the extender may ask you to create and confirm an administrator password. If it was already configured, enter its existing local administrator password. Some older models use admin as both the username and password, but that is not universal. If the extender has been bound to a TP-Link ID, the account credentials may be accepted.
The administrator password protects the management page. It is distinct from the Wi-Fi password devices use to connect to the extender’s wireless network.

Change the administrator password
After signing in, open the password-management option for your model. On TP-Link’s current extender instructions, the path is Settings > System Tools > Admin Account. In the RE315 User Guide, it is Settings > System Tools > Change Login Password; that screen asks for the old password and the new password twice before you select Save.
Menu names vary by model and firmware. TP-Link’s admin password guide covers its password-management instructions; use the support page or manual for your exact extender if the labels differ.

Change the extender’s Wi-Fi name or password
To change the network name (SSID), Wi-Fi password, or wireless security settings, open the extender’s wireless settings—not its administrator account settings. TP-Link’s instructions identify different pages by operating mode:
- Range Extender mode: look for Extended Network settings.
- Access Point mode: look for Wireless Settings.
Available options and labels depend on the model, firmware, and operating mode. Some mesh arrangements inherit wireless settings from the host router or limit independent SSID choices. TP-Link’s wireless settings guide explains the mode-specific options.

If the login page will not load
- Check the connection. Make sure the phone or computer is connected to the extender, not just the main router. If both use the same Wi-Fi name, TP-Link suggests temporarily turning off the main router to make sure the device connects to the extender.
- Check the address. Use
192.168.0.254only if the extender is at factory defaults. If it has joined a router, find its assigned address in the router’s client list instead. - Try Ethernet if available. A wired connection is optional, but it can help with configuration. TP-Link recommends wired access for configuration changes or firmware updates; the extender must have an Ethernet port.
- Confirm the model-specific instructions. Management interfaces differ across models and hardware versions. Choose the manual or support page for your exact version; TP-Link’s web setup guide describes browser-based setup.
If you have forgotten the administrator password
TP-Link says recovery through a TP-Link ID may be available if the extender is bound to one; otherwise, a factory reset is required to regain access. A reset erases the extender’s configuration. Before resetting, consult the manual for your exact model so you know how to reset it and set it up again. For the RE315, see the User Guide, revision 1.1.0.
