Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsTo improve a QLED TV’s picture, first choose a picture mode that suits the room, then correct any stretching or cropping, and only afterward make small changes in Picture or Expert Settings. There is no universal numeric preset: available controls and menu paths vary by model, year and region, so use your TV’s manual if the labels differ.
Choose a picture mode for the room
Open Settings > Picture and select a starting point that fits what you are watching. Samsung describes these modes as follows in its picture settings guide:
- Movie: a suitable starting point for films in a dark room.
- Filmmaker Mode: intended to show content without picture-setting changes. Samsung notes that it may look darker.
- Standard: a general-purpose default.
- Dynamic: brighter for a bright viewing environment, though a vivid image is not necessarily the most faithful to the source.
These are starting points, not guaranteed best settings for every QLED. Compare modes using the same familiar scene and the lighting in which you normally watch.
Correct a stretched or cropped picture
Fix framing before adjusting color or contrast. If faces look unusually wide, the image is cut off at the edges, or black bars look wrong, open Settings > Picture > Picture Size Settings if your model offers that path. Samsung lists options such as 16:9 Standard, Custom and 4:3; Fit to Screen and Zoom and Position may depend on the model and selected size.

Choose the aspect ratio that matches the source. Use Fit to Screen when available and when you want the whole image visible. Avoid zooming or stretching a picture just to fill the screen if that changes the source’s intended proportions.
Make modest changes in Expert Settings
Once the mode and framing are right, use Settings > Picture > Expert Settings to address a specific visible issue. Samsung defines the controls but does not publish model-independent ideal values; make one adjustment at a time and check the same scene for lost detail or unnatural color.

- Brightness and Contrast: affect the image’s dark and light levels. Watch for shadow detail disappearing into black or bright areas losing detail.
- Sharpness: affects edge definition. Excessive sharpness can create unnatural outlines.
- Color and Tint: affect color intensity and balance. Back off changes that make skin tones or other familiar colors look unnatural.
If experiments make the image worse or confusing, Samsung lists Reset Picture in Expert Settings.
Adjust motion and contrast processing only if needed
Motion that looks blurry or too smooth
Where available, Picture Clarity Settings may include Auto Motion Plus, Blur Reduction, Judder Reduction and LED Clear Motion. Try changing only the control related to the problem. Motion smoothing can make movement look different from a film’s original cadence, while LED/Clear Motion can make the picture darker, according to Samsung’s guide. Film Mode is limited to certain older signal types on that support page.

Dark scenes, HDR and local contrast
Depending on the model, Expert Settings may include local dimming, dynamic contrast, gamma, white balance, color-space controls or HDR tone mapping. Samsung’s Gulf-region support guide for 98-inch QLED TVs also lists Auto HDR Remastering, but its documentation says feature support varies. Treat these as model-dependent options, not settings every QLED should have. Compare the same dark or HDR scene with a control on and off; keep a change only if it improves the detail and look you prefer.
Balance gaming responsiveness with image processing
If responsiveness matters more than extra processing, enable Game Mode or an automatic Game Mode option where supported. Samsung says this feature is available only on select models and warns that “there may be a slight decline in the graphics quality” as the TV optimizes speed. Compare the image with Game Mode off if fidelity is your priority.

Consider calibration if basic adjustments are not enough
Samsung describes several calibration options, including Xbox One calibration tools and calibration discs played through a Blu-ray player. A disc is optional; Samsung does not specify a particular disc as required or endorsed.
Compatible TVs and phones may also support Smart Calibration through SmartThings. Samsung’s Hong Kong support page says the TV and phone must be on the same Wi-Fi network, the TV must be registered in SmartThings, and the model-phone combination must be supported. It lists estimated process times of 15–30 seconds for Basic Mode and 5–8 minutes for Professional Mode; these are calibration-process estimates, not measured picture-quality improvements. Professional Mode recommends a tripod and a dark room. Because that page is regional, check the support information for your location and exact devices before relying on its compatibility list: Samsung Hong Kong Smart Calibration instructions.

Compare changes in a repeatable way
For a useful comparison, return to the same scene after each adjustment rather than judging from different shows or lighting. Consider whether the change improves:
- Viewing comfort in your room’s actual brightness.
- Faithfulness to the source versus a brighter or more vivid appearance.
- Visible detail in shadows and highlights.
- Motion smoothness versus natural film cadence.
- Gaming responsiveness versus added image processing.
- Support on your specific model and input.
Samsung’s support pages describe the controls, but do not establish through independent measurements that one setting wins across QLED models. If a menu path or feature is missing, check the manual for your TV’s exact model and region; Samsung notes that screens can differ by model and year.
