In India, the right complaint route depends on what happened. Workplace sexual harassment of a woman is handled under the POSH framework through the workplace Internal Committee (IC) or, where applicable, the district Local Committee (LC); SHe-Box offers an online intake route. Wage, overtime, maternity-benefit and termination issues may fit categories on the Ministry of Labour and Employment’s SAMADHAN portal. “Unreasonable work pressure” alone does not identify a specific legal claim or one universal complaint channel.
Choose the route that matches the problem
| What the complaint concerns | Possible route | Key boundary |
|---|---|---|
| Workplace sexual harassment of a woman | Workplace IC, district LC where applicable, or SHe-Box online intake | POSH deadlines and committee procedures apply; SHe-Box routes a submission but is not itself the investigating committee. |
| Wages, deductions, overtime, maternity benefits, termination or another listed employment claim | Ministry of Labour and Employment’s SAMADHAN portal | The right category and claimant eligibility depend on the issue and applicable law. |
| Complaint about a public authority or public-service delivery | CPGRAMS may be relevant | It is not a general complaint channel for private employers; government employee service matters have a stated exhaustion condition. |
| Workload or pressure without a clearly matching statutory claim | Employer grievance process, worker representative or union; check SAMADHAN only if the facts fit a listed category | The official portal material does not establish “work pressure” by itself as a standalone statutory claim. |
How to make a POSH complaint
The government guidance describes a written complaint to the workplace IC, or to the district LC where an IC is not constituted or the LC is otherwise the applicable committee. The Ministry of Women and Child Development’s POSH guidance sets a filing period of three months from the incident, or three months from the last incident when the events form a series. Act promptly and confirm the appropriate committee and local procedure rather than assuming an extension is available.
If you cannot put the complaint in writing, the cited government guidance says committee members should provide reasonable assistance. You do not need to wait until every detail is perfectly phrased before asking the committee for help.
SHe-Box is an online government intake route for workplace sexual-harassment complaints. A Government of India Press Information Bureau release about the portal’s relaunch on 29 August 2024 says it automatically forwards a submission to the relevant IC or LC based on the details provided. That describes routing, not a guarantee about investigation, findings or outcome. Check the current portal directory or the relevant district or state authority for local committee contacts.

When SAMADHAN may fit an employment grievance
The Ministry of Labour and Employment describes SAMADHAN as “a single online platform for raising their grievances like illegal termination, delay payments, unauthorized deduction, non-payment of maternity benefits, minimum wage, overtime allowance”. Its FAQ associates complaint types with different laws and claimant eligibility, so identify the closest category and verify that you qualify before filing. Direct filing by a worker or filing through UMANG is free, according to the portal FAQ.
SAMADHAN’s listed areas do not mean every dispute about workload belongs there. If the core issue is unpaid overtime, for example, describe the actual hours and the pay claim rather than relying only on a general allegation of pressure. EPFO and ESIC matters are excluded from the portal’s stated scope; use the relevant agency’s channel for those issues.

What to do about unreasonable work pressure
Start by describing the conduct precisely. Examples might include repeated demands to work beyond agreed hours, threats tied to targets, or a workload that prevents required breaks—but whether any particular facts create a legal claim depends on applicable law and the circumstances. Check your employer’s written grievance or escalation policy, and consider a worker representative or union where appropriate. If the facts involve wages, overtime, maternity benefits, termination or another listed employment grievance, assess the relevant SAMADHAN category separately.
Keep a dated chronology of incidents, including locations, people involved, specific words or actions, witnesses and the remedy you are seeking. Preserve relevant messages, schedules or other records securely, and avoid using a shared or work-controlled device if that creates risk. These are practical steps, not a prescribed filing format or a requirement to submit a particular type of evidence. Avoid secret recording or posting sensitive allegations publicly.

When CPGRAMS is relevant
CPGRAMS is a grievance channel concerning public authorities and service delivery, not a general route for complaints against a private company. Its stated exclusions include government employees’ service matters unless prescribed channels have first been exhausted. If you are a government employee, check the applicable departmental process before using CPGRAMS for a service matter.

- Write a short factual account: what happened, when, where, who was involved, and what outcome you are requesting.
- Choose the route based on the conduct and the complainant’s status, not only on the label “harassment” or “pressure.”
- For POSH matters, identify the relevant IC or LC and note the three-month filing period; seek committee assistance if writing is difficult.
- For an employment claim, check SAMADHAN’s category and eligibility rules; use the designated EPFO or ESIC route for those issues.
- If there is an immediate threat or risk of violence, prioritize personal safety and seek local emergency support.
Committee contacts, state-level arrangements and available remedies can depend on location and facts. Confirm the current local procedure with the relevant district or state authority.
