The performance reports available are a few game-specific demonstrations on particular emulator builds and systems—not tested minimum or recommended requirements. Check the current compatibility report for the exact game before buying hardware: a faster PC cannot make an emulator support a feature it has not implemented.
Why there is no universal PS5-emulation PC requirement
KytyPS5, a free, open-source PS5 emulator written in C++, is in active development. Its project documentation says it can boot 2D games and a selection of 3D games, including titles made with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, Unity, and custom engines. Windows and Linux are its primary tested platforms; macOS support is experimental. The project also says behavior can change significantly between builds and identifies game compatibility and boot reliability as active development priorities. (KytyPS5 project documentation, accessed October 4, 2026.)
That makes a single CPU, GPU, RAM, VRAM, or storage recommendation misleading. The documentation does not set standard gaming-PC requirements, and the reported tests do not compare a range of systems running the same games under controlled conditions. A result for one game and build does not establish what another game needs.
What the reported PC tests do—and do not—show
The examples below are snapshots of particular demonstrations reported by Tom’s Hardware in September 2026. They are not minimum specs, purchase recommendations, or promises that the same game will run similarly on another build. A frame-rate figure alone also does not establish that a game is consistently playable.

| Game and reported result | Test hardware | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Demon’s Souls Remake: 40–50 FPS | NVIDIA RTX 5090; Intel Core i9-14900K | Tom’s Hardware reported a short demonstration on September 28, 2026, with apparently accurate graphics. The same report noted gameplay had been reported at 1–2 FPS three weeks earlier, illustrating how quickly results can change. |
| PS5 version of GTA V: roughly 40–60 FPS in the starting mission | AMD Ryzen 7 9950X3D; RX 7900 XT | Tom’s Hardware reported on September 6, 2026, that the run later crashed. |
| PAC-MAN WORLD Re-PAC: 60 FPS | AMD Ryzen 7 7700X; RX 6700 XT | A reported test result from Tom’s Hardware on September 6, 2026; it is not a general performance guarantee. |
The contrast is the useful part: different games have produced different results on different systems, and even a promising frame rate may accompany a crash or other problems. These reports cannot tell you that a particular processor or graphics card is enough for PS5 emulation as a whole.
How to assess whether your PC can run a particular game
- Find the exact game in the emulator’s current compatibility list. Note which emulator build the report refers to; compatibility can change between builds. KytyPS5’s project documentation directs users to its community compatibility list.
- Check what “works” means in that report. Booting, reaching gameplay, and being playable and stable are different outcomes. GamesRadar+ reported in late September 2026 that the available compatibility set remained small and fragile, with bugs, visual glitches, and performance issues affecting games that boot.
- Read the whole test result, not just the FPS number. Look for the game, emulator build, CPU and GPU, whether the run reached gameplay, visual problems, and whether it crashed. For example, the reported GTA V frame rate came from its starting mission, and the session later crashed.
- Upgrade only when there is evidence for your target game. If a report identifies a specific performance bottleneck or demonstrates a relevant system comparison, use that evidence for that title and build. Do not assume that buying a faster component will resolve an emulator compatibility problem.
Check for an official PC version, too
If your goal is to play a particular game on a PC, see whether it has an official PC release before pursuing emulation. Sony’s PlayStation gaming on PC support page lists requirements for individual PC releases, including CPU, GPU, memory, storage, and performance targets. Those requirements apply to the named PC versions; they are not PS5-emulation requirements.
