To listen to Auracast, use a compatible receiver—such as headphones, earbuds, or hearing aids—and an Auracast assistant to find and join an active broadcast. To create one, connect an Auracast transmitter to your audio source and enable its broadcast. The exact controls depend on the products involved: there is no universal phone menu for Auracast.
What you need for Auracast
Auracast is Bluetooth broadcast audio. A transmitter advertises and sends an audio stream; an assistant scans for broadcasts and helps a listener select one; a receiver joins the selected stream. The receiver can be headphones, earbuds, hearing aids, or other listening equipment. The assistant may be a phone, smartwatch, hearing-aid remote, receiver control, operating-system feature, or product app.
Bluetooth SIG defines Auracast through the Public Broadcast Profile and says products need relevant Bluetooth capabilities introduced in Core Specification 5.2. That does not mean every Bluetooth 5.2-or-newer device supports Auracast. Check the exact model and current firmware documentation from its manufacturer rather than relying on the Bluetooth version alone. Bluetooth SIG Auracast FAQ
Join a broadcast with headphones or hearing aids
- Confirm receiver support. Check the exact headphone, earbud, or hearing-aid model and firmware instructions for Auracast receiver support.
- Identify the assistant. Look in the device maker’s app, your phone’s operating-system controls, a hearing-aid remote, or the receiver’s own controls. The interface varies by product; Bluetooth SIG allows operating-system and third-party-app implementations. Bluetooth SIG Auracast assistant design guide
- Pair if required. Some assistants need to pair with each receiver they manage. Follow the assistant and receiver manufacturers’ instructions.
- Find the active broadcast. Make sure the transmitter is on and advertising, then scan in the assistant or receiver interface. Select the intended broadcast by its displayed name or stream information. The assistant passes the information the receiver needs to join. How Auracast works
- Join the stream. Follow the on-screen or device controls. If the broadcast is protected, you may need a broadcast code from its operator; do not guess or share private access details. Bluetooth SIG Auracast assistant design guide
If the broadcast does not appear
- Check that the transmitter is powered on and advertising the broadcast.
- Verify Auracast support for both the receiver and the assistant; ordinary Bluetooth pairing does not prove broadcast support.
- Confirm the assistant is paired with the receiver if the products require pairing, and follow each maker’s setup instructions.
- Move closer to the transmitter and scan again. Bluetooth SIG describes an unlimited number of receivers as able to join an in-range broadcast, but that does not guarantee reception at every distance or through walls. Bluetooth SIG Auracast FAQ
Create a home broadcast for a TV or other audio source
- Choose a transmitter for the source. Check that it accepts the audio output your TV or other device provides and supports the stream type you need. A product listing can help identify devices sold in transmitter or receiver roles, but it is not a guarantee of compatibility with a particular receiver. Bluetooth SIG product directory
- Connect the source. Use the transmitter’s current manufacturer instructions to connect the TV or audio device through a supported input.
- Enable the broadcast. Configure and start Auracast using the transmitter’s controls or app. The transmitter advertises broadcast information and sends one or more audio streams. How Auracast works
- Test the complete listening path. Use a compatible receiver and assistant to find and join the stream. Test where people will actually listen, not just beside the transmitter.
Set up Auracast in a venue
For public venues, Bluetooth SIG recommends making a Standard Quality Public Broadcast Audio stream available to broaden compatibility with supported hearing aids, cochlear implants, earbuds, and headphones. Plan the transmitter, audio feed, coverage, and listener instructions for the specific site; consult a commercial transmitter supplier or installer where needed. Keep alternative assistive-listening arrangements available as appropriate. Bluetooth SIG guidance for venues

How to check products before buying or deploying them
The Bluetooth SIG directory lists examples of products in transmitter and receiver roles, including the Audeara Audio Broadcaster Auracast Transmitter BT-03 and Avantree Oasis Aura as transmitters. Listings are informational, availability can change, and inclusion is not an endorsement or assurance that two products work together. Confirm details with the manufacturer before choosing a device. Auracast is designed so an unlimited number of in-range receivers can join a broadcast, but each receiver still needs compatible support and a usable signal. This describes the broadcast model, not a guarantee of range, wall penetration, sound quality, latency, or a successful pairing between any specific products. Bluetooth SIG Auracast FAQ
