Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →If an asset is missing or looks out of date in a Figma developer handoff, first check the selected layer, export controls, and your access. Then determine whether the design changed or the asset comes from a library that needs an update or replacement. An absent Export control alone does not mean the asset was deleted.
Start by checking the selected object and export controls
The right repair depends on where the problem occurs: one layer, the whole file, or multiple instances connected to a library. Begin with the object you need, rather than assuming the design file is missing it.
- In Dev Mode: select the relevant layer or object. The Export section appears when an object is selected. Dev Mode can also detect icons and show downloadable assets in Inspect; it exposes GIF and MP4 nodes and the source image at full resolution. See Figma’s Guide to Dev Mode in Figma and Guide to inspecting.
- In Design Mode: select the layer and look in the right sidebar for Export. Its location depends on whether you can edit the file or only view it. Figma’s Export from Figma Design guide covers exporting.
- Check the intended layer’s export settings: confirm that an export configuration is present and that you have selected the asset, not just a nearby frame or group. The Dev Mode guide lists PNG, JPG, SVG, and PDF as supported formats.
If Export is missing, refresh the file. If it remains absent, check whether the owner has restricted copying and sharing. A viewer can export only when those restrictions allow it. Ask the file owner to confirm your access or adjust the restriction if you need the asset. Figma describes handoff and access considerations in Optimize design files for developer handoff.
Dev Mode is documented as available on paid plans for Full or Dev seats. If you do not have access to Dev Mode, use the Design Mode export controls available to your role or ask the owner for an appropriate way to access the asset.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check whether the design changed
If you can export the asset but it does not match the implementation or your earlier handoff, verify the design version before replacing anything. In Dev Mode, use Compare changes on the top-level frame or component. It shows the selected item’s history against the current version and when it was last edited. Figma’s Compare changes in Dev Mode guide explains the workflow.
Ask the design owner which version is approved for development. A newer edit is not automatically the approved handoff, so do not update implementation assets solely because the current canvas differs from the version you previously inspected.

Update an asset that is still connected to a library
When a component, style, or variable comes from a published library and Figma offers an update, review the changes before applying them. Publishing makes changes available to files that use those resources; applying an available update is a separate user action. Follow Figma’s Review and accept library updates guide to inspect and accept the relevant changes.
Use this workflow when the source library is still available and the issue is a newer published version of an existing asset. Check that the proposed change is the one intended for the handoff before updating instances.

Replace an asset whose library source is missing or inaccessible
If the original library was unpublished, deprecated, or moved to a team you cannot access, accepting updates is not the same as restoring its source. When you have access to a suitable replacement library, use Swap libraries. Figma matches components and styles by name; items without a match remain unswapped. Review the result because a swap changes the connected source, and swapped instances continue receiving updates from their new main components. See Figma’s Swap libraries guide.
Choose a replacement library you are authorized to use, then check each affected instance. Name matching cannot replace unmatched assets, and a successful match does not by itself confirm that the replacement is visually or functionally equivalent.

Make future handoffs easier to inspect
Figma’s handoff guidance recommends setting exports on the frames, components, and assets developers need; using descriptive page names; marking content “Ready for development”; and giving components meaningful names and descriptions. Descriptions can explain intended use, variants or states, and accessibility or contrast guidance. Figma’s handoff optimization guide details these practices.
