For UK Sky TV, give at least 31 days’ notice, and the cancellation date cannot be before your minimum term ends. Check your contract and any early-exit charges, get Sky to confirm the end date, and keep paying until the final bill is settled.
What to do before switching
First identify every service on your account: TV, broadband, landline and, if applicable, mobile. A broadband switch and a TV cancellation are separate actions. Sky says a new provider normally arranges the broadband and landline switch, but this does not cancel Sky TV or Sky Mobile. Sky’s switching guidance explains the distinction.
- Check your agreement. Find the minimum-term end date, notice requirements and any early termination charges. Ofcom says pay-TV, phone and broadband contracts commonly run for 12, 18 or 24 months, but your own agreement sets your dates and charges. See Ofcom’s contract guidance.
- Choose a target date. Allow at least 31 days between giving Sky TV notice and the requested cancellation date, and do not set that date before the minimum term ends. Ask Sky to confirm the effective date.
- Order Vodafone broadband if you are switching it too. Vodafone’s announcement says its One Touch Switch process handles the broadband switchover. That process is for broadband; it does not end your Sky TV subscription.
- Give separate notice to cancel Sky TV. If your Sky account bundles services, specify which subscriptions should end and which should remain. Request confirmation of both the notice date and service end date.
- Keep payments active through the final bill. Sky says billing continues up to the date the new broadband service starts and advises customers not to cancel their Direct Debit or other ongoing payments before the final bill. Check the bill and resolve any balance with Sky.
How much notice does Sky require?
Sky’s UK cancellation page says Sky TV requires at least 31 days’ notice, and the cancellation period cannot end before the minimum term finishes. The notice rule is specific to Sky TV; do not assume another provider uses the same period. Read Sky’s cancellation guidance and ask Sky to confirm the date that applies to your account.
Does switching broadband cancel Sky TV?
No. The provider-to-provider switch normally covers Sky broadband and landline, not Sky TV or Sky Mobile. Cancel each service you want to leave through the relevant provider’s process. If you are keeping one Sky service, make that clear when you contact Sky so the change does not affect the wrong subscription.

What if you have another TV provider?
Use that provider’s contract and cancellation process rather than applying Sky’s 31-day rule. Before placing the Vodafone order, check:
- the minimum-term end date and any notice period;
- how to submit cancellation and how the provider confirms it;
- any early termination charge or equipment-return requirement;
- whether TV is bundled with broadband, phone or mobile, and which services need separate action;
- the service end date and how final billing will work.
Ofcom’s guide to contracts is useful for understanding minimum terms and exit costs, but it does not set every provider’s cancellation method.

Check Vodafone’s current offer and the service you are ordering
Vodafone’s announcement dated 2 October 2026 describes Vodafone TV as including a 4K Android TV box, Freely, streamed live channels and apps. It says Freely does not need a dish or aerial. The release advertised Vodafone TV from £10 per month and TV Essential with Netflix and HBO Max included for £17 per month. These are dated launch-offer details, not a guarantee of the price or terms available when you order. Check the current package, included subscriptions, contract length, price changes and equipment arrangements directly with Vodafone. See Vodafone’s 2 October 2026 announcement.
The same release said qualifying customers switching to Vodafone TV and broadband could receive up to £300 in account credit toward early leaving fees. “Up to” is not a promise to cover every fee or every customer: confirm eligibility, claim steps, covered charges and timing in Vodafone’s current offer terms before relying on it.

Compare the whole switch, not just the monthly price
Before you commit, compare the replacement package with what you are leaving. Focus on the full cost and practical fit:
- Exit cost: Sky or your existing provider’s minimum-term end date, notice and any early termination charge.
- Content: live channels, on-demand services and apps you actually use; check which streaming subscriptions are included in the Vodafone plan you select.
- Equipment and setup: the Vodafone announcement describes a 4K Android TV box and says Freely needs no dish or aerial. Confirm the equipment supplied and what your home needs.
- Ongoing commitment: the full recurring price after any offer, contract duration, later price changes and costs of add-ons.
- Switch coordination: which provider handles broadband migration, and which TV or mobile services still require separate cancellation.
Vodafone’s switching survey figures
Vodafone’s 2 October 2026 announcement reports that 40% of respondents said they paid for TV services they did not regularly use, 35% had not changed TV provider in the previous five years, 16% cited perceived hassle and 12% cited exit-fee concerns. The release does not provide enough methodological detail to assess the sample, so these figures should not be treated as representative of all UK households.
