Request your Discord Data Package in User Settings > Data & Privacy. Discord emails a link to the address associated with your account when you submit the request; the package is a ZIP of JSON files you can review with a text editor or browser. Allow up to 30 days for processing, and download the package within 30 days after Discord sends the link.
Request your Discord Data Package
Before starting, make sure the email associated with your Discord account is verified and accessible. Discord allows only one request at a time. The download link is sent to the email linked to the account when you submit the request, so changing your email afterward will not redirect it. Disabling or deleting your account while the request is pending cancels it. Discord’s request instructions say processing can take up to 30 days; its current Data Package guide says the link is active for 30 days after it is sent.
On desktop or in a browser
- Open Discord and select the cogwheel to open User Settings.
- Select Data & Privacy, then scroll to Request your data.
- Select Request Data.
- In the dialog, choose the data you want and submit Request My Data.
- Keep the account active and check the associated email for Discord’s download link.
On mobile
- Tap your avatar or profile area in the lower-right corner.
- Tap the cogwheel to open Settings, then select Data & Privacy.
- Choose Request all of my data and complete the request dialog.
- Check the email address linked to the account for the download link.
The desktop and browser dialog lets you select specific data; the documented mobile route requests all of your data. If you permanently lose access to the account, Discord says to contact privacy@discord.com about a personal-records request.
Download and open the ZIP
Discord sends the link by email rather than making the download available inside the request screen. Once downloaded, the Data Package is a ZIP archive containing JSON files. Discord says JSON files can be opened in Notepad on Windows, TextEdit on macOS, or a browser such as Chrome or Firefox. No special paid reader is required for this basic review.
#1 Best Overall
Keep an untouched copy of the original ZIP if you may need to revisit the data. The archive can include private conversations, account identifiers, IP addresses, session records, payment history, attachment links, and notes. Store it somewhere private and do not upload it to an online viewer you do not trust.
What the package contains
The folders cover different kinds of account information. Discord’s Data Package guide describes these broad categories; the exact records vary by account and server activity.
| Folder or area | What it can include |
|---|---|
| Account | Identifiers and contact information, settings, connected accounts, IP address and active sessions (including IP addresses), friends and block lists, payment information and history, developer information, activity statistics, notes written about users, and other account data. |
| Activity | Analytics, modeling, reporting, and Trust & Safety data. Discord says Trust & Safety data is retained for up to two years. |
| Activities | Preferences and data for first-party Discord activities listed in the guide. |
| Messages | Messages you sent, grouped into direct-message, group-message, and channel folders. Records include an ID, timestamp, contents, and attachment links. |
| Servers | For servers you own, data can include uploaded emoji, audit-log actions, channel permissions, settings, and webhooks. For servers where you are a member, it can include certain account-related audit-log actions from the last 90 days and the server ID and name. |
| Ads | Information about Quests you interacted with and traits associated with ad tailoring. |
| Support tickets | Public comments and ticket metadata for Help Center tickets associated with your Discord email. |
Review the files efficiently
- Start with the top-level folders and look for any mapping or index JSON files included in the archive.
- Use server or channel identifiers to make sense of message folders and records; the IDs may be more useful than display names when navigating raw JSON.
- Search the files for a date, phrase, or known channel name to locate relevant entries. A text editor’s find function or your browser’s page search can help.
- Follow attachment links carefully. The archive can contain links to files rather than the attachment files themselves.
Understand what the export does not show
The package is not a complete historical archive of everything that has ever appeared on Discord. Discord says manually deleted messages are no longer stored and will not appear. Server information reflects servers you are in when you make the request and some recently departed servers, so a server you left earlier may be absent. Discord support does not review the package on your behalf; contact support if something seems missing.

Requesting a package and changing how Discord uses your information are separate actions. Discord’s Data Privacy Controls page says controls are in User Settings and cover choices about information use, including analytics and personalization. Check the wording in your current Discord client, since settings labels can change.

Discord says an individual Data Package request can take up to 30 days. Its 2025 transparency figures report 1,361,282 access requests received, 1,346,816 completed, 14,466 incomplete, and an average 2.9 days to resolution. That 2.9-day figure is an aggregate across reported access requests, not a delivery estimate or guarantee for any individual Discord Data Package; use the up-to-30-day window for your own request.
