Choose Floorp for built-in workflow tools such as workspaces, split view and web panels; choose LibreWolf if you prioritize privacy-oriented defaults and are willing to manage updates yourself. Neither is a universal winner, and neither makes you anonymous or hides your public IP address. The right choice depends on how you work, how much site-level troubleshooting you accept, and whether you keep browser updates current.
Floorp vs LibreWolf at a glance
| Decision | Floorp | LibreWolf |
|---|---|---|
| Best fit | People who want built-in tab and interface workflow features. | People who want a privacy-oriented Firefox build and accept hands-on update management. |
| Notable features or defaults | Workspaces, split view for up to four pages, web panels, interface customization, mouse gestures and web apps. Floorp’s feature overview lists Windows, macOS and Linux. | The project describes privacy- and security-focused settings, uBlock Origin included, and telemetry removed. These are project descriptions, not an independent audit. LibreWolf’s overview has installation information; check it for current support and trusted packages for your operating system. |
| Updates | Floorp 12 is based on Firefox Rapid Release, according to the project’s October 27, 2025 upgrade FAQ. A comparable measured release delay is not stated. | The project says updates usually follow Firefox stable within three days, sometimes the same day. There is no built-in auto-update; the user or package manager must install updates. See the LibreWolf FAQ. |
| Documented trade-off | A major Floorp 11-to-12 migration could require reconfiguring settings and add-ons; tabs or settings might not carry over, the project warned in its October 27, 2025 FAQ. | Strict tracking protection may require site exceptions, and Safe Browsing is disabled by default, according to the project FAQ. |
Neither comparison establishes a speed winner or a broad site-compatibility winner. Try your essential sites, extensions and workflows in your own setup before moving your main profile.
Choose Floorp for built-in workflow features
Floorp is an open-source browser built on Firefox. Its feature overview highlights tools intended to keep several tasks or pages accessible without relying only on a conventional row of tabs.
- Workspaces group tabs by task.
- Split view can display up to four pages at once.
- Web panels keep sites alongside the active page.
- Customization, mouse gestures and web apps offer additional ways to adapt the browser interface and workflows.
These are concrete reasons to consider Floorp if you regularly switch between projects, compare pages side by side, or want browser controls arranged to suit your habits. The feature overview’s comparison snapshot is dated July 29, 2026 and identifies Floorp 12.16.4 for that snapshot; that is not a claim about the current release version.

Choose LibreWolf for privacy-oriented defaults—if you can maintain it
LibreWolf is an independent custom version of Firefox. Its project says it focuses on privacy, security and freedom, aims to limit tracking and fingerprinting, removes telemetry and data collection, and includes uBlock Origin. Treat these as the project’s stated design goals and features, not a guarantee against all tracking or a guarantee that every site will work without adjustment.
The practical trade-off is update responsibility. LibreWolf says new builds usually arrive within three days of Firefox stable releases, sometimes on the same day, but it has no built-in auto-update. You must install updates yourself or rely on your package manager. If you choose it, make updating part of your regular browser maintenance; privacy-focused defaults do not substitute for security fixes.

Understand the privacy and security differences
Floorp still makes network requests
Floorp’s privacy policy, last updated September 7, 2026, says its default desktop configuration disables Mozilla telemetry and health-report uploads. It does not say the browser is network-silent: enabled functions such as updates can contact Floorp, Mozilla and distribution providers for updates, configuration, security or compatibility information, and extensions. Those providers may receive connection details, including an IP address, request time, browser or operating-system information, and the requested resource. Read the Floorp privacy policy for its account of these connections.
Desktop profile information—including history, bookmarks, passwords, autofill, cookies, settings, workspaces and feature data—is stored in the browser profile. Mozilla Sync is optional. When enabled, record contents are encrypted end-to-end on the user’s device; account and service metadata are separate from that encrypted content.

LibreWolf’s protections involve choices
LibreWolf’s FAQ says its strict Enhanced Tracking Protection includes dFPI and recommends whitelisting a site if necessary. The project also says Safe Browsing is disabled by default; users who want its additional protection can enable it. Disabling a protection feature may suit a particular preference, but it is a decision to make knowingly rather than an automatic advantage.
LibreWolf does not hide your public IP address, according to its FAQ. It should not be treated as an anonymity tool. Privacy settings, content blocking and anonymity are different things.

Consider updates and migration before switching
Floorp’s release basis and version change
The Floorp project’s October 27, 2025 upgrade FAQ says Floorp 12 is based on Firefox Rapid Release. It also explains that Floorp 11 and 12 use different codebases and are not fully compatible. The project said the move was mandatory because Floorp 11’s Firefox ESR 128 base had reached end of life and no longer received Mozilla security fixes. For the upgrade, the project warned that settings and add-ons might need reconfiguration and that tabs or settings might not carry over. Back up important profile data before a major browser migration.
LibreWolf requires an update routine
LibreWolf’s stated update timing is useful context, but the absence of built-in auto-update means the timing alone does not keep your installed browser current. Check that your chosen installation route actually receives updates and apply them promptly.

Make the choice for your own setup
- List your must-haves. If built-in workspaces, multi-page split view or web panels would improve everyday browsing, start with Floorp. If LibreWolf’s stated privacy-oriented defaults are the priority, start with LibreWolf.
- Check update habits. Choose LibreWolf only if you will install updates or have a package manager that does it reliably. Floorp’s documented Firefox Rapid Release base does not establish a specific measured update delay.
- Test important sites and extensions. No broad, controlled compatibility comparison establishes which browser will work better for your particular sites or add-ons. Check the ones you depend on, including any that may be affected by strict tracking protection.
- Check platform support and downloads. Floorp lists Windows, macOS and Linux. For either browser, verify current operating-system support and use a trusted installation route; LibreWolf’s documentation provides OS-specific installation paths.
- Back up before migrating. This is especially important when moving from Floorp 11 to 12, for which the project warns that some settings or tabs may not carry over.
