The RTX 5070 is not a sure raw-performance upgrade over the RTX 4070 Ti. In one GamersNexus 1080p raster test, the older 4070 Ti led by 2%. The 5070 does bring Blackwell, GDDR7 memory, and newer DLSS features, but whether those advantages matter depends on your games, resolution, and the net cost of switching.

The specifications are from NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 family comparison. The 2% result is a single test-specific finding from GamersNexus’s RTX 5070 Founders Edition review, not an average across games. Memory type and bandwidth describe hardware; they do not by themselves predict frame rates.
These are the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 5070, not the RTX 4070 Ti SUPER. The SUPER is a separate card and should not be substituted for the ordinary 4070 Ti when comparing benchmark results.
Which card is faster in games?
There is no universal winner established by the available comparisons. GamersNexus found the RTX 4070 Ti 2% ahead in its cited 1080p raster workload, showing why it is inaccurate to call the 5070 an automatic performance upgrade. That result does not establish which card wins in every game, at 1440p or 4K, or with ray tracing and upscaling enabled.

For a useful comparison, use results from the same review, game, resolution, and rendering settings. Do not combine one site’s 4070 Ti result with another site’s 5070 result and treat the difference as a controlled head-to-head: test systems and methods vary. ComputerBase’s RTX 5070 testing includes WQHD, UWQHD, and Ultra HD results, while Tom’s Hardware’s Founders Edition review reports its own raster results and test methods. Check each review’s comparison set and confirm it lists the ordinary RTX 4070 Ti before using a number.
- At 1080p: the cited GamersNexus raster result favors the 4070 Ti by 2%; it is not a general ranking.
- At 1440p or 4K: consult matched results for the games you play. The cited 1080p finding cannot determine the winner at these resolutions.
- With ray tracing: compare ray-tracing results separately from conventional raster results, using the same settings and test.
What the RTX 5070 adds: Blackwell, GDDR7, and DLSS
The RTX 5070 uses Blackwell and 12 GB of GDDR7 on a 192-bit interface, with 672 GB/s of memory bandwidth. NVIDIA lists the RTX 4070 Ti as Ada Lovelace with 12 GB of GDDR6 or GDDR6X and 504 GB/s. The higher bandwidth and newer memory are real specification differences, but they are not proof that the 5070 will render a particular game faster.

The 5070’s newer DLSS capabilities may matter if the games you play support them and you value the resulting image and performance trade-offs. Treat upscaling and frame generation as separate from native or ordinary raster performance: generated frames are not the same as frames rendered by the GPU, and they can affect responsiveness and image quality. Check support and implementation in each game rather than assuming a feature is available everywhere or that enabling it produces a direct equivalent to a native frame-rate gain.
Board-partner versions can differ in dimensions, cooling, clocks, and power behavior. NVIDIA’s GPU specifications do not establish how a particular custom card compares in noise, temperature, or power use. For those, use like-for-like measurements from the same reviewer and workload, such as the separate ComputerBase power, temperature, and noise testing.

Should you upgrade from an RTX 4070 Ti?
For ordinary gaming frame rates alone, keeping a working 4070 Ti is the safer default unless matched benchmarks show a meaningful gain in the games and resolution that matter to you. The available 2% 1080p result does not promise a benefit from changing cards; it illustrates that the two can trade places depending on the test.
An upgrade may still make sense if you specifically want a supported newer DLSS feature, need a particular workload benefit demonstrated in relevant benchmarks, or have a reason to replace your current card such as its condition or warranty. Calculate the real net cost using the price of the exact 5070 model available to you, the likely resale proceeds for your 4070 Ti, and any differences in warranty or condition. No aligned current-price comparison establishes a universal value winner.

Is the RTX 5070 a good choice for a new build?
Compare actual local prices and available alternatives rather than treating launch MSRP as today’s price. NVIDIA’s January 2025 announcement said the RTX 5070 would be available beginning in February at a starting price of $549; that is launch-price context, not an October 2026 retail quote. The announcement is at NVIDIA’s January 2025 newsroom page.
When choosing a card for a new system, compare same-review performance in your target games and resolution, then weigh the price of the exact card, its warranty, size, and measured power and noise. Do not infer a present-day bargain from the historical launch price or from an older comparison’s dated pricing; for example, Tech4Gamers’ direct comparison tied its pricing observations to early March 2025.
