Claim Opera’s free travel eSIM in Opera for Android before you leave, install it over a stable internet connection, then select it for mobile data after you arrive. Opera says the free offer provides 3 GB for three days in selected launch markets; activation and the start of the plan occur when the eSIM first connects to a network in the destination country.
Check whether your phone and account are eligible
The eSIM feature is available in the latest Opera for Android—not Opera Mini or Opera GX mobile. Your phone must run Android 10 or newer, support eSIM, and be carrier-unlocked. If you are unsure whether your device supports eSIM or is unlocked, check with your mobile operator. Opera’s setup guide explains the requirements at How to get an eSIM in Opera One for Android and activate it.
Opera announced the 3 GB, three-day free offer for users in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, France, Canada, United Arab Emirates, Brazil, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Poland. That promotion is distinct from paid service: Opera says its eSIM service is available in 47 destinations, but the free offer is limited to selected launch markets. The launch details are in Opera’s September 29, 2026 announcement.
Claim and install the free eSIM before your trip
- Update Opera for Android. Install or update to the latest version before starting.
- Open the eSIM section. In Opera, tap the profile icon at the bottom right. In the tab-strip view, it may appear at the top right. Scroll down and tap eSIM.
- Claim the offer. Tap Claim now, choose your destination country, and confirm. Opera says the app will then prompt you to install the eSIM.
- Complete installation on a stable connection. Follow the Android prompts on your particular phone. Install before departure so you can troubleshoot while you have reliable internet access.
Opera says no payment details or email are required to claim the free offer. Its product blog also says claimed free data can remain unused for up to a year before connecting in the destination; the plan starts when that first destination-country connection occurs. These are offer-specific terms, not a general rule for paid plans. See Opera’s eSIM product announcement.

Activate it after you arrive
- Turn off airplane mode and make sure the Opera eSIM is enabled in your phone’s SIM settings.
- Select the Opera eSIM as the SIM for mobile data.
- Turn off data roaming on your regular SIM to help avoid roaming charges from your usual carrier.
- Let the eSIM connect to a local network. Opera says it activates automatically on its first connection in the destination country, and the plan’s validity begins then.
The eSIM is data-only and works for the phone’s internet connection; it does not replace your existing number or provide local voice calls or SMS. Opera says it connects to 5G where local networks support it and otherwise uses the next-best available network quality. Actual service depends on the destination and local network.
Use more data or continue to another country
Opera’s paid plans are offered in 3 GB, 5 GB, and 10 GB sizes. They last 30 days from activation in the destination or until the allowance is consumed, whichever comes first. The price depends on destination and plan size; Opera displays it in the browser before purchase.

Plan sizes and validity are described in Opera’s announcement and its activation guide.
