Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallFor most Samsung owners, it is safest to leave “3GPP AT commands” disabled. Enable it only for a specific, documented task when you understand which commands will be used and trust the connected computer or software. The 3GPP standard warns that some implementations can expose sensitive information or security-related operations through AT commands, but that warning does not establish what this switch does on every Samsung model.
What does the setting do?
3GPP TS 27.007 is a specification for AT commands used with cellular user equipment; it is not a Samsung toggle manual. Samsung’s general Developer options guidance explains how to access Developer options, but does not document this particular switch or say which commands it makes available on a given phone.
As a result, the available documentation does not establish the exact effect of enabling “3GPP AT commands” on a specific Galaxy model, firmware version, or carrier variant. It is not supported to claim that enabling the switch automatically exposes sensitive commands on every Samsung phone—or that it is safe on every model.
Why can AT commands raise privacy or security concerns?
The ETSI-hosted 3GPP TS 27.007 Release 18 specification, version 18.8.0 dated January 2025, describes AT-command syntax and cautions that some implementations may use commands internally to transfer sensitive information in clear. Clause 4.0 says: “Certain AT commands transfer information in the clear that can be regarded as sensitive with regards to security or privacy.”

The specification’s examples include passwords, subscriber identities such as IMSI, call details, location, IMEI, SIM/UICC access, commands protected by security mechanisms, and security-related UICC parameters. It says these examples are not comprehensive. This is a standards-level warning about possible implementations—not a claim that every device exposes all these items or that enabling Samsung’s switch alone makes them accessible.
When should you leave it off or enable it?
Leave it off for ordinary use
If you do not have a specific, documented modem-command task, leave the setting disabled. Avoid entering command strings from untrusted instructions, and do not use an untrusted computer or software to access a phone’s modem interface.

- Please note, this device does not support E-SIM; This 4G model is compatible with all GSM networks worldwide outside of the U.S. In the US, ONLY compatible with T-Mobile and their MVNO's (Metro and Standup). It will NOT work with other CDMA carriers, and it is also not compatible with their MVNO (Visible, Xfinity Mobile, US Mobile, Cricket Wireless, etc).
- Compatibility with certain third-party devices and accessibility accessories, including some hearing aids, may vary depending on manufacturer support, Bluetooth protocols, software compatibility, and regional firmware limitations. For additional hearing aid compatibility information, please refer to Samsung’s official support documentation.

Enable it only for a verified task
If a task genuinely requires AT-command access, first find trustworthy instructions for your exact device and firmware. Confirm the command list and whether each command reads information or changes modem or SIM state. Use a computer and software you trust, and do not run commands whose purpose or effects you cannot verify.
Do not confuse it with USB tethering
Routine internet sharing is a separate consumer feature: this modem-command setting is not established as a requirement for USB tethering. Samsung’s cited Developer options page does not compare tethering with the switch.

What is—and is not—established about the risk?
The standard documents potential privacy and security concerns associated with certain AT-command implementations. It does not provide an incident rate or probability of compromise, and the available Samsung support documentation does not specify this switch’s behavior by model or firmware. ETSI’s work-programme catalogue lists 3GPP TS 27.007 version 19.6.0, Release 19, as finalized, but that listing alone does not establish whether the Release 18 warning changed or persisted in Release 19.
