Before signing in to the FC Companion App, secure the EA Account it uses: confirm you can access its email, set a unique password, turn on two-factor authentication (2FA), save the backup codes, and review trusted devices. These steps improve account security and make recovery easier, but they cannot guarantee an account will never be compromised.
1. Confirm you can recover the EA Account
Make sure the primary email address on your EA Account is current and that you can sign in to it. Email access matters both for account notices and for password recovery. EA also recommends adding a secondary email: it may help you reset your password if you lose access to both your account and primary email. See EA’s account access and recovery guidance.
2. Set a unique EA Account password
Use a password that you do not use for your email, console account, or another service. Reuse can make one exposed password a risk to several accounts. Avoid information others can find on your public profiles. EA’s account security guidance recommends separate passwords for the EA Account, console login, and email.
3. Turn on two-factor authentication
EA documents email, an authenticator app, and text message as verification options. An authenticator app generates codes on your device instead of sending them by email or text; choose the option you can reliably access. Exact options can vary, so follow the choices shown in your EA Account settings.

- Sign in to your EA Account and open Account settings.
- Open Security and Privacy, then find Two-factor authentication.
- Select Turn On, choose an available verification method, and enter the code EA provides.
- When setup offers backup codes, view them and store them somewhere secure and accessible if your usual verification method is unavailable.
EA’s step-by-step instructions are in Enable two-factor authentication on your EA Account. If you change or reset your phone, preserve your backup codes first and transfer authenticator data if your app supports it.
4. Know how passkeys relate to 2FA
If passkeys are available on your account, EA describes them as a sign-in option that uses built-in device security. A passkey and 2FA are distinct features: EA recommends turning on 2FA whenever possible even if you use a passkey. Do not treat a passkey as a replacement for 2FA.

5. Review trusted devices
In EA Account security settings, inspect the trusted-device list and remove devices you no longer use or do not recognize. Keep device passwords and screen locks enabled, especially on the phone or tablet you use for verification. EA explains account and device security in its security guidance.
6. Protect your sign-in and recovery from scams
Do not give anyone your password, verification code, or passkey—not to someone claiming to be support, and not to a person or service offering paid account recovery. EA says it will not ask for login information through console messages or private forum messages, and warns that paid social-media recovery offers are scams. Use EA Help for account support. EA’s direct warning is: “To help keep your EA Account secure, never share your login information, passwords, verification codes, or passkeys with anyone.”

On a shared or public computer, do not save your login details; sign out when finished and clear the browser cache. Keep software up to date and use browser phishing filters and malware protection as general device hygiene—not as a guarantee against phishing or a special requirement for the Companion App.
7. Respond quickly to suspicious activity
Unusual activity can be associated with phishing, shared devices, weak passwords, or reused passwords. EA may lock an account and reset its password when activity looks suspicious. If EA locks your account, follow its instruction to reset the password, then use a unique password and enable 2FA. See EA’s guidance for a locked account.

If you suspect someone accessed your account, secure the accounts connected to it as well:
- Reset the EA Account password and the password for its associated email account.
- Turn on EA Account 2FA and check trusted devices.
- If you play on a console, reset the password for the associated PlayStation Network, Xbox, or Nintendo account.
- Contact EA through EA Help if you cannot regain access or in-game content is missing. EA cautions that it may not be able to restore all missing content.
Does the FC Companion App require extra security hardware?
EA’s account-security instructions describe account settings, backup codes, and access to an existing email address or phone, as well as an authenticator app from an app store. They do not establish a requirement for a physical security key or a particular paid security product to use the Companion App. EA’s FC 26 help hub lists Companion App support alongside account security, management, recovery, and linking resources; the account controls themselves are managed through the EA Account.
