These offers are temporary and the lineup changes, so an expired event or membership requirement can look like a launch failure.
Check that the game is still available
- Find the game in the current Free Play Days collection. Xbox says the lineup changes weekly. Check the current Free Play Days page and the game’s listing rather than relying on an older event announcement.
- Check the event dates. Free Play Days access is limited to the stated event window. For example, Xbox’s June 4, 2026 announcement listed an event running June 4–7, 2026; those dates apply to that event, not to every game or the current offer.
- Read the game’s access terms. Xbox says eligible Game Pass Ultimate, Premium, and Essential members can try Free Play Days games, but check the individual title because exceptions can apply. In the June 2026 event, Descenders on console was available to all Xbox players without those listed memberships.
If the event has ended or the game is no longer listed, the offer may simply have expired. Xbox says buying a participating game can allow you to continue after the event, but whether the game is available to buy and any discount depend on the title and region; check its current store listing.
Open the current Free Play Days listing
Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S
Open Store > Subscriptions > Free Play Days and select the game from the collection. Xbox documented this route in its June 2026 event announcement. Menu labels or availability may change, so use the current collection if the path looks different.

Open the game’s detail page on Xbox.com and check whether it is included in the active offer. Xbox’s June 2026 announcement directed players to install from each individual game detail page. Follow the current listing’s install option and confirm that you are signed in with the account whose access you checked.

If the game is listed and your account qualifies
At this point, distinguish an access problem from a technical launch error. Note the exact message or error code shown on screen and whether you are playing on Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, or Windows PC. Those details determine which support instructions apply; without them, a generic reset or reinstall recommendation could be the wrong fix.
- If the message says you need to buy the game or join a membership, recheck the current event, the title-specific terms, and the signed-in account.
- If you see an error code or a launch/crash message, record it exactly. Use the relevant article in Xbox Support for that code and your platform.
- If you are on Windows PC, use the Windows game-troubleshooting guidance in Xbox Support and match it to the displayed error. Console-only Store instructions do not establish a PC repair procedure.
Do not assume every launch problem has the same cause: an ended offer, an account that does not meet a title’s terms, and a technical failure require different next steps.
