Unplug the charger and stop trying wired charging. Samsung phones may disable cable charging when moisture is detected in the charging port to help prevent damage; do not override the warning. Dry the phone safely, and reconnect a cable only when the port is completely dry and the alert has cleared.
What to do immediately
- Disconnect the charger. Do not keep plugging in the cable or try to bypass the moisture warning. Samsung says charging may stop when moisture is detected to help protect the device from damage (Samsung US charging troubleshooting).
- Dry the outside. Wipe the phone with a soft, dry cloth. Hold it with the charging port pointing down and gently shake it to help release moisture; do not shake it forcefully.
- Let the port air-dry. Leave the phone in a well-ventilated place. A fan or cool air can help. Do not use external heat, and do not put tissue, cotton swabs, tools, or other objects into the port. Avoid handling the charging setup with wet hands. Samsung warns not to charge a wet device or one in an area where it could get wet (Samsung UK moisture guidance; Samsung India moisture-handling tips).
- Wait for both conditions before using a cable: the port is completely dry and the moisture alert is gone. Samsung UK estimates port moisture may evaporate in approximately one to two hours, while Samsung India says drying can take several hours. Those are estimates, not a guaranteed recovery time; conditions vary.
Can you charge it wirelessly while the port dries?
Only if your specific Galaxy model supports wireless charging, and only after the phone itself is thoroughly dry. Samsung’s guidance says to dry the device thoroughly before placing it on a wireless charging pad. Check the model’s manual for compatibility and pad placement instructions (Samsung UK water-drop alert guidance).
If the water-drop alert remains after drying
A moisture alert can sometimes be triggered by high humidity; it does not prove the phone was submerged. If the phone and port are dry but the warning persists, restart the phone. Samsung’s regional troubleshooting also suggests clearing the USB Settings cache. The menu path varies by model and software version, so use the instructions for your device rather than assuming one universal path. If the alert remains or charging still fails, contact Samsung support or arrange a service inspection; continued trouble may indicate hardware damage (Samsung US troubleshooting; Samsung UK guidance).
If the port contacted a liquid other than fresh water
Samsung UK advises rinsing the charging port with fresh water and then drying it thoroughly with a soft cloth when the port has been exposed to liquid other than fresh water. This instruction is specifically about the port; it is not a general recommendation to rinse the whole phone or every kind of exposure (Samsung UK moisture guidance).

Water resistance does not make a wet port safe to charge
Do not assume every Samsung phone is waterproof or that a water-resistance rating makes cable charging safe while the port is wet. Ratings and protection vary by model, and no rating guarantees survival after every exposure. Follow the practical rule for this problem: wait until the port is dry and the warning has cleared before wired charging.
