Swap in a compatible, known-good cable and wall adapter to narrow down a Samsung charging problem. Change one accessory at a time while keeping the phone and outlet the same: if the symptom changes with the cable, the cable is the stronger suspect; if it changes with the adapter, suspect the adapter. If it continues with both replacements, check the phone’s settings, temperature, charging port and diagnostics. An accessory swap can narrow the cause, but it cannot confirm which internal phone component has failed.
Start by identifying what the phone is doing
“Not charging” can mean several things: there is no charging indication, charging cuts in and out, the battery percentage rises slowly, charging stops at a particular level, or the phone charges but no longer displays a fast-charging message. The symptom alone does not identify the cause. Samsung lists accessories, temperature, charging settings, port debris, moisture detection and battery protection among possible explanations for slow or interrupted charging. Samsung’s charging troubleshooting guide also notes that battery protection can limit charging or stop it early; a charging cap by itself does not prove that the cable, adapter or phone is defective.
Test the cable and adapter separately
Use a compatible, known-good cable and wall adapter. Samsung recommends trying another compatible charger and cable; testing one item at a time makes the result easier to interpret. Keep the phone and outlet unchanged for each comparison, reconnect the plugs securely, and give the phone time to show whether charging is stable.
- Test the cable: Keep the original wall adapter and outlet, and replace only the cable with a compatible known-good one. If the problem goes away, the original cable is the stronger suspect.
- Test the adapter: Keep the known-good cable and outlet, and replace only the wall adapter. If that resolves the problem, the original adapter is the stronger suspect.
- Check the result with both replacements: If the same symptom persists, move on to phone-side checks rather than assuming the port or battery is definitely broken.
This is a controlled troubleshooting approach, not a guarantee: intermittent faults can be difficult to reproduce, and compatible accessories may differ in charging capability. Samsung warns that damaged or incompatible accessories can cause slow charging, interruptions or failure. Its fast-charging guide gives U.S. examples of charging tiers, but the right accessories depend on the Galaxy model and supported charging standard.

Separate ordinary charging from fast charging
A phone that charges normally but slowly may have a fast-charging compatibility or settings issue rather than a failed cable or adapter. Fast charging depends on the phone supporting the relevant tier, the setting being enabled, and a sufficiently capable power source and accessories. A PC or standard USB device may not provide fast charging.
Samsung’s U.S. guide lists these examples; they are not universal requirements for every Galaxy:

| Samsung charging tier example | Samsung-listed accessory example |
|---|---|
| Fast Charging (15 W) | 15 W USB-A adapter and the appropriate USB-A cable |
| Super Fast Charging (25 W) | 25 W USB-C adapter; a 5 A cable is recommended for best results |
| Super Fast Charging 2.0 (45–60 W) | 45 W or 60 W USB-C adapter and a 5 A cable |
Check the guidance for your exact model before buying or judging an accessory. Menu names and available settings vary by model and software version. Samsung says the Galaxy S23 series combines Fast charging and Super fast charging controls; look under the phone’s Battery or Charging settings for the applicable option.

Let an overheated phone cool
Charging can slow or pause if the phone gets too hot. Disconnect it if needed, let it return to a comfortable temperature, then try again. Avoid treating a temporary slowdown during overheating as proof of a bad accessory.

Do not charge through a moisture alert
If the phone reports moisture in its charging port, unplug the cable and wait until the port is completely dry. Samsung says charging may stop when moisture is detected to help protect the device. Its guidance is to gently shake the device, wipe it with a soft, clean cloth, and leave it in a ventilated place with cool air. Water resistance does not make it safe to ignore a moisture alert.
Inspect the port carefully
Turn off the phone and use a light to look for visible debris. Remove only what can be cleared carefully; do not put metal objects or liquids into the port. If debris is stuck or the connector appears damaged, stop rather than risk damaging the port.

Run Samsung diagnostics and decide when to seek service
In the Samsung Members app, open Support > Phone diagnostics and run Cable charging if it is available. Samsung’s device guide also lists Battery status and Wireless charging checks. Availability and menu paths can differ by model or software version, so use the options shown on your device. Samsung’s device guide describes the battery and wireless-charging checks.
If wireless charging works while wired charging does not, that result can help focus attention on the wired charging path, but it does not identify whether the cable, adapter, port or another internal component is at fault. A diagnostic result also should not be treated as proof of a specific failed part in every case.
Best Value
- Get it in black or white to suit your style and device
- Lets you charge your USB-C device
- Sync your photos, music and data on your smartphone
- Blazing charge and transfer speeds
Arrange Samsung service inspection if the issue persists with compatible known-good accessories after the basic checks, or if battery use has become markedly shorter. An accessory swap and app diagnostics can narrow the possibilities; they cannot remotely confirm an internal port, battery or board fault.
