No—not completely. Meta says Muse keeps conversations and virtual-machine data out of its advertising systems, and users can turn off model-training use and limit connected-app access. But the service still processes personal information to operate, and Meta says its staff may access virtual-machine data when needed for support, security, or operations. Those controls reduce certain uses; they do not make Muse a no-data-sharing service.

What “sharing personal data” means with Muse

The answer depends on what you mean by sharing. Meta says Muse conversations and virtual-machine (VM) data are not shared with its ad systems. That does not mean Meta does not process the data: Muse uses a VM to hold user information, and Meta says access may be necessary to support, secure, or operate the service. Meta’s descriptions are vendor statements, not independent audit findings. Meta AI Research’s security article explains the distinction.

There can also be indirect advertising effects. Meta says Muse does not send VM data to its ad systems, but if Muse visits a merchant’s website, that merchant may later show you an ad on Instagram. A reservation or Marketplace activity may likewise influence ads indirectly.

Is Muse data used to train AI?

Meta describes conversations, tool calls, and handoffs between agents as interaction “trajectories” that can help train new model checkpoints. Training use is on by default, according to Axios’s September 2026 report and Meta’s security article. Meta says trajectories are sanitized to remove key personally identifiable information before training, but sanitization is not the same as avoiding collection or processing, and the sources do not independently verify the method or its effectiveness.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

To opt out, open Muse settings and turn off the control for using your interactions to train models. The sources describe the setting but do not give a more specific current menu path, so check the current Muse interface for the exact label. This setting addresses training use; it does not stop data processing needed to run Muse.

  • Choose connected apps and permissions. For email, Meta says you can allow reading only or also allow sending messages.
  • Change or revoke access. You can change permissions or disconnect a service.
  • Review activity. Muse provides an audit trail of its actions.
  • Approve sensitive actions. Meta says Muse checks with you before actions such as sending an email or making a purchase.
  • Manage memory. You can tell Muse to forget specific learned details and inspect, edit, or download files, including its memory about you.
  • Opt out of training. Turn off the model-training control in Muse settings.

These controls let you limit particular uses and actions. They do not establish that no personal data reaches Meta: the VM is part of how the service operates, and Meta says access can occur when needed to support, secure, or operate Muse. Meta also says connected-service credentials and authentication tokens are stored in a separate isolated container within the VM, and that VM data is backed up continuously.

Does Muse’s virtual machine keep Meta from seeing your data?

No. The dedicated VM provides separation for Muse’s agent and user data, but Meta’s security article explicitly qualifies that protection: “It does not prevent Meta from accessing data when necessary to support, secure or operate the service.” VM isolation should therefore not be mistaken for provider-inaccessible processing.

Is Confidential VM available?

Meta described Confidential VM as a future option, not a generally available privacy setting. Its September 2026 launch announcement said it planned to introduce the feature later that year, with the VM—including personal data and conversations—encrypted using a key held only by the user. Meta’s technical article said a small group of trusted testers was using the system while the company gathered auditor feedback and prepared a public continuous audit. The official material reviewed does not establish that Confidential VM was generally available as of October 4, 2026. Check current availability before relying on it. Meta’s launch announcement and security article describe the plans.

What was reported about Muse permissions?

On September 30, 2026, Tom’s Hardware reported journalist Jason Aten’s account that Muse suggested a topic tied to a private Messages conversation, although he said he had not given Muse permission to read messages or full disk access on his Mac. The report said further investigation found Muse syncing a local Messages database. This is a reported incident involving one journalist’s setup, not proof that every installation behaves this way; the account was not independently reproduced here, and the report does not establish whether the issue was later fixed. Given that report, review Muse’s connected-app permissions and audit trail, and verify what access is enabled on your device rather than assuming that a permission setting has worked as intended. Meta has also acknowledged that prompt injection remains an open problem and that Muse can make mistakes, so approval controls are useful but not a guarantee against every unintended action. Meta’s security article discusses that limitation.
