Handle those as two separate jobs: back up and move your data, then have the new carrier transfer your number. Keep the old service active until the new provider confirms the number works, and do not erase the old phone until you have checked both the new line and your important files.
What moves when you switch carriers—and what does not
A number port transfers your phone number to a new provider; it does not copy the contents of your phone. Contacts, photos, messages, apps, and settings must be backed up or transferred through your phone’s setup or restore process. A successful port does not prove that your data has moved.
Number-porting rules depend on country and geography. In the United States, FCC consumer guidance says customers changing providers can keep their existing number if they remain in the same geographic area (FCC guidance on keeping your phone number). In Canada, the CRTC advises customers to tell the new provider they want to keep their number and not to cancel the old service before switching (CRTC: Switch providers and keep your number). If you are elsewhere, check your national regulator’s rules and the receiving carrier’s instructions rather than assuming these procedures apply.
Before you start: check coverage, your phone, and your backup
Check the new carrier’s service and device compatibility
Check coverage where you live, work, and travel. If you plan to keep your current phone, ask the new carrier whether that exact model is compatible with its network and whether it needs to be unlocked. Unlock status and network compatibility are device- and carrier-specific; an unlocked phone is not automatically guaranteed to work on every network.

- 【Strong Adsorption】The inspiration of the silicone phone suction case comes from the adhesive force of the octopus. Each suction cup phone mount is 3.15 inches long and 2.17 inches wide, with 24 independent suction cups providing a stronger and more stable suction force, so you don't have to worry about your phone falling during use.
- 【Back of Phone Suction Grip】Remove the adhesive film on the phone suction cup and stick it on the phone case. You can then fix the phone on any smooth surface, which is very convenient. (The phone suction cup cannot be removed and reused after being attached to the phone case. It is recommended to attach it to a regular phone case, not a valuable one.)
- 【Widely Used】Our non-slip silicone phone sticky grip mount attaches to almost any flat phone case and make it compatible with common mobile phones such as iPhone and Android. You can shoot, watch videos or video calls in the kitchen, gym, dance studio, bathroom and other places.
- 【Capture the Wonderful Picture】Whether you are a TikTok creator or just like to share videos and photos, this phone suction cup can help you hands-free capture wonderful videos and photos for sharing with friends.
- 【Note】You can fix the phone suction cup on a smooth surface such as a mirror or glass. If necessary, wipe the suction cup with a damp cloth to obtain stronger suction. Before releasing your hand, make sure the phone is firmly fixed. (Not applicable to rough walls, wooden surfaces, and other uneven surfaces)
Ask how the new line will be activated: with a physical SIM or an eSIM, and whether the carrier needs to take any steps. Apple notes that moving from Android to iPhone can involve carrier steps to activate a number or SIM/eSIM as well as the separate content-transfer process (Apple: Move from Android to iPhone or iPad).
Back up the old phone
Make a backup before setting up a replacement phone. The FTC recommends backing up before configuring a new device (FTC: How to remove your personal information before you get rid of your phone). Use the backup or transfer option for your platform, and check that the content you care about—such as photos, contacts, messages, and app data—is included. Keep the old phone available while you set up and verify the new one.

- SUPERIOR COMFORT — Unlike traditional circular ear buds, the design of EarPods is defined by the geometry of the ear. Which makes them more comfortable for more people than any other ear bud–style headphones.
- HIGH-QUALITY AUDIO — The speakers inside EarPods have been engineered to maximize sound output and minimize sound loss, which means you get high-quality audio.
- BUILT-IN REMOTE — EarPods with USB-C plug also include a built-in remote that lets you adjust the volume, control the playback of music and video, and answer or end calls with a pinch of the cord.
- COMPATIBILITY — Works with all devices that have a USB-C port.
- INTEGRATED MICROPHONE — A built-in microphone precisely captures your voice while you’re on the phone, taking a FaceTime call, or summoning Siri — so you’re always heard loud and clear.
Switch in this order
- Prepare your destination service and phone. Confirm coverage, device compatibility, unlock status if applicable, and whether you will use a physical SIM or eSIM. Follow the new carrier’s current activation instructions.
- Back up your data. Use your phone’s backup or transfer flow before changing devices. Android’s setup and restore steps vary by device (Google Android Help: Switch to a new Android device); Apple describes supported categories and steps for moving from Android to iPhone (Apple: Move from Android to iPhone or iPad).
- Ask the new carrier to port your number. Tell the receiving provider that you want to keep your existing number and follow its official instructions for account or authorization details. Requirements such as account information or a transfer PIN vary by carrier; provide them only through the provider’s official channel.
- Keep the old service active while the port is in progress. Do not cancel the old line first. In Canada, the CRTC explicitly advises against cancelling before switching. In the United States, the safe sequence is likewise to let the new provider initiate the port and wait for confirmation before closing any remaining old account lines. Follow the new provider’s estimate; there is no dependable completion time that applies to every carrier.
- Activate the new SIM or eSIM and move your data. Number activation and content transfer are separate operations. Follow the carrier’s activation instructions, then use your phone’s transfer or restore flow. A cable may be one option for copying Android data if the devices’ ports support it, but it is not required to port a number.
- Test the new line and inspect your content before wiping the old phone. Confirm you can make and receive calls and texts and use mobile data. Check the important contacts, photos, messages, and authenticator access you rely on. Keep the old phone and backup until you are satisfied with the result.
What to do if something is missing or not working
The number has not appeared on the new line
Contact the new carrier through its official support channel and ask for the status of the port and activation. Keep the old service active until the provider confirms the transfer is complete. If you still have other lines or services with the former carrier, ask what account-closure steps remain after the number has moved.
The number works, but data is missing
Check whether the missing content was included in the backup or transfer method you used, then follow the relevant platform’s restore instructions. Transfer coverage depends on the devices and setup method; do not assume that every app, message, or setting moves automatically. Keep the old phone available while you investigate.

The old phone will not activate on the new network
Ask the destination carrier to check the exact model’s compatibility and unlock status, and confirm whether the SIM or eSIM has been activated correctly. Compatibility and activation steps depend on the phone and carrier, so use the provider’s current compatibility tool or support channel rather than relying on a general unlock rule.

Once you have confirmed the new line works and important content is present or recoverable from a backup, prepare the old phone before giving it away, trading it in, or disposing of it. The FTC advises backing up, removing personal information, unlinking accounts, and erasing the device; remove payment cards where applicable as part of that preparation (FTC guidance on disposing of an old phone).
