Yes, but the current options are limited. Domi lets customers text participating restaurants directly; DoorDash announced a U.S. text-ordering beta on September 30, 2026, with access described through a waitlist. Neither is established as a universally available way to order by SMS. First confirm that your restaurant participates and that the DoorDash beta is open to you.
Alternatives to DoorDash for ordering food by text
There are two current options in the available documentation, and they work differently: Domi is used by individual restaurants that adopt it, while DoorDash’s newly announced beta brings text ordering to its marketplace for users who can get access. The evidence does not establish a broad field of national food-delivery marketplaces that let anyone place an order through ordinary SMS.

How to order by text with Domi
- Contact the restaurant and ask whether it accepts Domi orders by SMS. Request its correct Domi number; numbers are restaurant-specific.
- Text your order or question to that number. Domi says it can confirm items, handle add-ons, send the total, and reply with a payment link.
- Review the confirmation and total before paying. Use the payment link provided in the restaurant’s ordering flow, and clarify pickup or delivery details with the restaurant if they are not clear.
Domi says messages may be handled automatically. Its terms warn that carrier or third-party failures can delay or prevent message delivery, order processing, or payment processing, and that standard message and data rates may apply depending on your carrier. Its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, both last updated in October 2025, describe the service and data handling. The privacy policy says it collects phone numbers, message contents, order details such as items and prices, delivery addresses if provided, and technical messaging information to respond, complete orders, and provide support or updates.
What DoorDash’s text-ordering beta offers
DoorDash announced its text-ordering beta on September 30, 2026. The company says U.S. users can apply through a waitlist. The proposed flow lets a user text a craving or reorder request, review suggested cart contents, and confirm checkout in the text thread. The announcement also describes local restaurant discovery and preferences for repeat and group orders. Because access is described as a beta waitlist, check DoorDash’s announcement for current availability rather than assuming you can start using it.
#1 Best Overall
- Get thousands of restaurants, convenience stores, pet stores, grocery stores, gifts, and more at your fingertips.
- Easy ordering, order customizations, and real-time tracking
- Pickup, group order, and scheduled delivery options available
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
DoorDash also reported in that announcement that users discovered more than 40,000 new restaurants through Ask DoorDash in the three months since its launch, and that nearly half of Ask DoorDash restaurant orders went to local spots a consumer had never tried before. These are DoorDash-reported figures, not independent measures of text-beta access or coverage. The announcement’s separate figure of more than 800,000 menu items and grocery products available to an average U.S. user likewise does not mean that many restaurants are available through text ordering.
Texts that do not mean you can place an order by SMS
A text can be part of an ordering experience without being the way the order is placed. Delivery updates, driver coordination, and pickup-ready alerts usually concern an order created through another channel.
Rank #2
- A huge selection fulfilling all your needs - food and more!
- Easy ordering & real-time tracking
- Customize your orders
- Pickup & group order options
- Physical gift cards are delivered active via mail.
- DoorDash delivery updates: DoorDash Drive documentation describes SMS updates about delivery progress and tracking, with customer opt-in settings. That is post-order communication, not evidence that the original order can be placed by texting. See DoorDash Developer Services.
- Grubhub SMS/MMS: Grubhub’s terms describe transactional, operational, or informational text communications to a phone number. They do not establish that a customer can create a food order by texting Grubhub. See Grubhub’s terms.
- Toast order-ready texts: Toast says these alerts apply to eligible direct online-ordering, Toast Local, and curbside flows. The feature is unavailable for orders placed through third-party delivery integrations such as DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub. See Toast Support, last updated September 2, 2026.
Why Domino’s old text-ordering announcement is not a current alternative
Domino’s announced an SMS reorder platform in 2015, including orders triggered with “Easy Order” or a pizza emoji. That historical announcement does not confirm that the feature remains available in 2026. Its separate April 2, 2025 partnership announcement with DoorDash concerns placing orders through the DoorDash app and fulfillment by Domino’s drivers; it does not establish ordering by text. See Domino’s 2015 announcement and DoorDash’s 2025 partnership announcement.
