If a Bluetooth speaker is out of sync with another speaker during Google Home group playback, adjust Group delay correction on the device that plays last. Play audio to the group while tuning so you can hear whether the speakers move into sync. This setting is for group playback; it does not correct every single-speaker or video lip-sync problem.
First identify where the delay occurs
Google Home pairs a Bluetooth speaker to a Google Home or Nest device, which acts as its host. To include that Bluetooth output in a speaker group, add the paired Google device to the group; the Bluetooth speaker itself is reached through that host. Bluetooth playback can introduce delay, so start with the group correction setting rather than assuming the Bluetooth speaker needs replacing. See Google’s Bluetooth speaker and headphone guidance.
- One speaker is consistently late in a group: use Group delay correction on the device that plays last.
- Audio is late relative to video on one source: the group correction setting may not apply. Google documents it for group playback only, not as a general video lip-sync control.
Correct delay during group playback
- Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the same Wi-Fi network or Google Account as the speaker or group, as applicable.
- Cast music to the group that sounds out of sync. Keep it playing while you adjust the setting.
- Stand between the speakers that sound out of sync, or as close to their midpoint as possible. Set their volumes so they sound about equally loud.
- In the Google Home app, go to Home → All devices. Touch and hold the device tile, then select Settings → Audio → Group delay correction. Move the slider and listen for synchronization. App labels can vary by version.
- Adjust the device that plays last. If increasing correction on one device makes the mismatch worse, return it to zero and try the other device.
- If more than two devices are in the group, mute the others and tune the two mismatched speakers first. Then listen from the area where the mismatch matters.
Google advises changing correction only when the delay is consistent and significant. The instructions and setting scope are in its group playback delay guide.
Know what the correction setting changes
Group delay correction affects group playback only. It does not change casting to one speaker or TV. A device’s correction value applies to every speaker group that contains that device, so changing it for one group can affect another.

If a Google streaming device is connected to another speaker or TV, Google recommends resetting the correction value to zero and checking again: the previous value may no longer suit the changed audio connection.
Typical delay ranges Google publishes
Google’s undated help page, accessed in 2026, gives these typical ranges. They are category guidance, not measurements of your particular equipment; Google notes that individual models may fall outside them.

If the group itself is unreliable
Check that the devices and group setup are supported before treating every playback problem as latency. Google’s group help says firmware version 3.73 or above should allow groups for Google Home Speaker, Nest Audio, Nest Mini, Google Home Mini, and Google Home devices. If group problems continue, Google advises removing devices outside its listed set and testing again; this is general group troubleshooting, not a guaranteed latency fix. Consult Google’s current speaker-group creation and management guidance and Google Assistant device-group guidance for supported devices and limitations, which can vary.

When the slider does not solve it
- If only video is out of sync on one app or source, identify the source, host device, and whether the delay also occurs with a single Bluetooth speaker. The documented group setting is not established as a fix for every video and device combination.
- If the slider worsens the group, restore that device to zero and test the other device that may be playing late.
- If a device’s audio connection has changed, reset its correction to zero and retest before fine-tuning.
- If only one speaker is playing, group delay correction will not change its casting delay.
