The confirmed differences and compatibility details are narrower: Sony’s US CFI-2100 listing advertises 1 TB of storage, Sony says CFI-2100 accessories work with CFI-2000 products, and compatible Digital Edition consoles can use Sony’s detachable Disc Drive.
How do I tell which PS5 Slim model I have?
- Find the full CFI number. Sony’s Thailand warranty-registration guidance says the model number follows the pattern CFI-xxxx plus A or B. It directs owners to the bottom of the console when it is positioned vertically, and also recommends checking the original packaging. Since this is regional guidance, use the label or packaging supplied with your own console as the reference. Sony Thailand’s model-number guidance.
- Separate the model group from the configuration. CFI-2000 and CFI-2100 identify documented Slim model groups. Separately determine whether your console has an optical disc drive installed or is a Digital Edition. The model group alone does not tell you whether a drive is present.
- Check the regional product listing if you need a specific specification. Retailer shorthand, bundle name, or shell appearance is not a substitute for the full CFI code and SKU documentation.
What changed between PS5 Slim CFI-2000 and CFI-2100?
Sony publishes manuals for both CFI-20XX and CFI-21XX Slim families, and its current US console listing describes a CFI-2100 product. Those materials establish the model groups, but they do not form a comprehensive revision history.

What Sony confirms
- Accessory compatibility: Sony’s US CFI-2100 listing says, “The CFI-2100 models are compatible with PS5 accessories for CFI-2000 products, including Console Covers (sold separately).” This is Sony’s compatibility statement for the listed products; check the specific accessory’s page for its own scope. - Storage on one listed configuration: that same US listing advertises 1 TB of built-in storage. Treat this as the capacity for the listed US configuration, not a blanket specification for every regional listing or bundle.
- Optical-drive specifications: Sony’s CFI-20XX and CFI-21XX manuals describe supported optical media and drive specifications for consoles with a drive installed, including PS5 Ultra HD Blu-ray, supported PS4 Blu-ray, Blu-ray, and DVD formats. What the published specifications do not establish
Sony’s reviewed manuals and product pages do not provide a revision-by-revision bill of materials or engineering change log. They therefore do not establish a comprehensive list of changes to internal components, nor do they supply a market-wide performance comparison between CFI-2000 and CFI-2100. Do not treat a claim about a particular internal part as confirmed by Sony unless it is supported by model-specific documentation.
Can I add a disc drive to a PS5 Slim Digital Edition?
Yes. Sony says its detachable Disc Drive is compatible with PS5 Digital Edition consoles in both the CFI-2000 Slim and CFI-2100 Slim groups. Sony’s setup requires an internet connection to pair the drive with the console. The UK product listing identifies the accessory as model CFI-ZDD1. Does adaptive charging mean the later Slim has different hardware?
No such hardware conclusion follows from Sony’s announcement. On September 12, 2024, Sony said adaptive charging for DualSense, DualSense Edge, PS VR2 Sense, and Access controllers was available for the slimmer PS5 when the console is in rest mode. Sony specified connecting through the console’s USB-C port with the included USB-C cable.
