The PS5 Slim contains a lithium button/coin-cell battery, but Sony’s CFI-20XX safety guide does not provide an owner replacement procedure, service interval, or approved replacement part. That is separate from the DualSense controller’s rechargeable battery. For cooling, Sony recommends clear airflow and careful dust removal with a handheld vacuum—not routine fan or battery disassembly.
Does the PS5 Slim have a battery?
Yes. Sony’s PS5 CFI-20XX Safety Guide states: “WARNING: This console contains a lithium button / coin cell battery.” The same guide says, “The controller contains a lithium-ion rechargeable battery.” These are different components: the console’s coin cell is not the DualSense’s rechargeable battery.
Can you replace the console battery yourself?
The guide identifies the coin cell but does not explain its function or give a replacement procedure, service interval, part number, or user eligibility criteria. Do not treat routine replacement as scheduled maintenance or assume a particular aftermarket cell is approved. If you believe the console battery needs service, contact PlayStation Support for your region rather than opening the console to attempt an undocumented repair.
What if you mean the DualSense battery?
That is a separate repair question. The reviewed guide’s battery warnings are safety information, not a controller battery replacement procedure; it does not establish a DIY replacement method. Use the appropriate local PlayStation Support channel for controller service guidance.

How do you clean dust from a PS5 Slim?
Sony recommends a handheld vacuum to remove dust from the vents and dust trapped underneath removed covers. Turn the console off, disconnect the AC power cord and other cables, and let it cool before removing covers for maintenance. Reinstall the covers correctly before powering the console on; Sony warns not to use the console without its cover.
- Turn off the console and disconnect the AC power cord and cables.
- Wait until the console has cooled before removing any cover.
- Use a handheld vacuum to remove dust buildup from vents and, with covers removed, dust underneath them.
- Fit the covers back into place correctly before reconnecting power and using the console.
The model-specific guidance does not recommend compressed air, liquid cleaners, fan disassembly, or thermal-interface service as routine owner cleaning. Avoid improvising those procedures as substitutes for Sony’s stated maintenance steps.

How should you position the PS5 Slim for cooling?
Keep the vents unobstructed and place the console where air can circulate rather than in a cramped space. PlayStation’s PS5: The Ultimate FAQ recommends at least 10 cm (4 in) between the console and a wall. Sony also advises against placing it on long-fiber carpet or covering it with cloth.
Why is the PS5 Slim fan loud, or why does it show a temperature warning?
Fan noise without a warning
The fan may temporarily run louder in some games or applications as it cools the system. Check that the vents are clear, there is space around the console, and it is not on long-fiber carpet or in a cramped location. For dust, use the low-power vacuum approach described above. PlayStation’s noise guidance is on a Romanian-localized support page; for regional instructions, use your local PlayStation Support noise page. Contact support if the issue remains after the airflow and dust checks.

High-temperature notification
Sony’s instruction is direct: “If you see the [high temperature] notification, turn off your PS5 console and wait until it cools down.” Once cool, move it to a well-ventilated location and check for blocked vents. If you installed an M.2 SSD, check that its heat-dissipation parts have not detached.
Could an M.2 SSD cause a cooling problem?
This check matters only if you have installed an M.2 drive. Sony’s CFI-20XX guide supports commercially available PCIe Gen4 x4 M.2 NVMe SSDs with an M key, capacities from 250 GB to 4 TB, and listed sizes of 2230, 2242, 2260, 2280, or 22110 within the guide’s physical limits. M.2 SATA is not supported. Sony says to attach a heat conductor, such as a heatsink or heat-transfer sheet, if the drive does not include heat-dissipation hardware; without it, the SSD may overheat and continued use may cause operation failure. Sony does not guarantee every third-party drive that meets the listed specifications.

An SSD heatsink is a drive-specific heat-dissipation measure, not a general PS5 cooling upgrade or a fix for a noisy console fan.
