Check whether your console supports PSSR
The Enhance PSSR Image Quality option is limited to consoles in Sony’s CFI-7000 model group, which Sony identifies as PS5 Pro. If you have a standard PS5, you cannot enable this setting. Sony’s PS5 Pro feature page describes the console’s PSSR features and supported titles.

Update PS5 Pro system software
- From the home screen, open Settings > System > System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
- If the console shows that an update is available, select Update System Software and follow the on-screen prompts.
Sony’s PS5 system software update instructions also cover automatic updates. The upgraded-PSSR software update began rolling out on March 16, 2026; Sony said users could check manually in system settings.
Verify the Enhance PSSR Image Quality setting
- Open Settings > Screen and Video > Video Output.
- Find Enhance PSSR Image Quality and check its current state. Sony says it is on by default.
- If you experience unexpected visual effects in a supported game, turn the setting off and check whether the issue changes.
Sony documents this option in its PS5 video output settings guide. You do not install a separate PSSR app or download a standalone PSSR file: the relevant actions are updating system software and checking this console setting.

Check whether your game uses Enhanced PSSR
PSSR support is title-specific. Sony’s current PS5 Pro supported-title list identifies these games as supporting Enhanced PSSR:
- Resident Evil Requiem
- SILENT HILL f
- SILENT HILL 2
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Alan Wake 2
- Control
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- Dragon’s Dogma 2
- Dragon Age: The Veilguard
- Nioh 3
- Rise of the Ronin
- Crimson Desert
- Assassin’s Creed Shadows
- Cyberpunk 2077
Some games may also require a title update to integrate upgraded PSSR. Check for game updates if the feature does not appear to be taking effect. Sony’s list can change, so consult its current page for the latest supported titles.

What PSSR does—and what to expect
PSSR stands for PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution. Sony describes it as an AI library that analyzes each frame pixel by pixel while upscaling game visuals. In its March 16, 2026 announcement, Sony said the upgraded version improves image stability, fine-detail clarity, and performance consistency in supported titles. These are not guaranteed identical gains in every game: results depend on each title’s support and implementation, and Sony does not give a universal improvement figure.
