Yes, an Android phone can play PC games, most reliably by streaming them—but that does not mean it runs Windows games as Android apps. With Steam Link or Moonlight, a computer runs the game and sends its video to your phone. Cloud gaming uses a remote service instead of your own PC. Running a Windows game locally on the phone through third-party compatibility software is a separate, title-specific possibility; broad compatibility across phones and games is not established.
Choose how the game will run
The key distinction is where the game executes. In a stream, the PC or cloud service runs it; your phone receives the video and sends back your controls. A stronger phone may help with receiving and decoding the stream, but it does not replace the computer that runs a PC game.

What your phone and network need
For Steam Link
Valve says its Android app supports many Android phones, tablets, and TVs running Android 5.0 or newer. Its listed equipment includes a computer running Steam and a 5 GHz wireless router. That is a Steam Link-specific starting point, not a universal minimum for every way of streaming PC games. See Valve’s Steam Link support page for current requirements and setup details.
For Moonlight and other streaming setups
Moonlight cautions that performance varies with the client device and network setup. The cited sources do not establish a universal phone CPU, RAM, or GPU requirement for all streamed games. The host PC still has to run the game; the phone’s role is to receive the stream and return input.

For cloud gaming
The provider supplies the remote gaming system, so you do not need your own gaming PC for that route. You do need a supported device and access to the service. Check that the particular game, your location, and your account or service tier are supported. NVIDIA describes GeForce NOW as streaming games from the cloud to Android and other supported devices in its FAQ.
Compatibility: check the right thing
A Windows PC game is not automatically an Android app. Google Play Games on PC concerns the opposite direction: it lets qualifying Android games run on Windows PCs. Google documents support for Android games built with ARM or x86-64 ABI in that PC platform; this does not show that Windows games run on Android phones. For phone play, verify the relevant compatibility question for your route:
- PC-to-phone streaming: Can the host PC run the game, and does the selected streaming app work with your setup?
- Controls: Can you play comfortably with touch, a controller, a mouse, or a keyboard? Input usability varies by game.
- Cloud gaming: Does the provider currently support the game, your region, device, and account?
- Local execution: Is there current documentation or testing for this exact game, phone chipset, and software version?
Valve lists supported controllers including Razer Kishi, while Moonlight says Android can send mouse, keyboard, and controller input to the PC. A controller is optional, and connecting one does not make an otherwise incompatible game work. Check the current Steam Link support details or Moonlight listing for the relevant setup.

How much phone storage do PC games need?
With Steam Link, Moonlight, or cloud gaming, the game runs on the PC or cloud host rather than being installed as a full PC game on the phone. The phone receives a stream, so you should not count the PC game’s full installation size as phone storage used by that stream. The cited sources do not give a universal storage requirement for streaming apps or for Windows games run locally through compatibility tools; check the current app and game requirements for your particular setup.
Google’s storage guidance for Play Games on PC applies to Android games made compatible with that Windows platform. It does not establish that a Windows game can be installed on an Android phone or provide a phone storage estimate for streaming. Google’s compatibility guidance describes that specific platform.

Set up a stream to your phone
Steam Link from your own PC
- Install and open Steam on the computer that will host the game, and make sure it can run that game.
- Install Steam Link on the Android device and connect the phone and host PC to the same network. Valve specifically advises: “Ensure your phone is connected to the same network as your host PC.”
- Pair the app with the host PC by following its prompts, then choose a game from the available library and start streaming.
- Use touch controls or a supported controller, depending on the game. A 5 GHz wireless router is Valve’s recommendation for this setup.
Steam Link support covers many Android phones, tablets, and TVs running Android 5.0 and newer, rather than guaranteeing compatibility with every device. Confirm current support on Valve’s support page.
Moonlight or cloud streaming
For Moonlight, install its Android client and configure a compatible host using Sunshine or NVIDIA GeForce Experience; the host runs the game while the phone receives the stream. For cloud gaming, use the provider’s current Android app or supported access method and check its game catalog and availability for your region.
