The right Hulu alternative depends on what you want to replace. For a broad live-TV bundle, compare YouTube TV and DIRECTV; Sling is worth checking if you want a customizable package or a short viewing pass. If you mainly watch on-demand shows and films, compare streaming libraries title by title rather than paying for live channels you do not use.
First decide what you need to replace
Hulu + Live TV combines live channels with access to Hulu’s streaming library. Its live-TV page advertises more than 100 channels and unlimited DVR for live recordings, which are retained for up to nine months. The DVR does not cover on-demand shows, and Hulu says live and video-on-demand content through the Live TV plan includes ads. These details are from Hulu’s product page, accessed October 4, 2026.
- Replacing live TV: Compare local broadcast stations, sports and news channels, DVR, streams, and the full monthly cost of each live-TV package.
- Replacing only on-demand Hulu: Look up the programs and films you actually watch across candidate services. A live-TV bundle may include more than you need, while a standalone streaming subscription will not automatically provide local channels, live sports, news, or DVR.
- Replacing both: Compare the combined cost and ads of a live-TV service plus any on-demand service you would need to add. Do not assume a live-TV service’s included library matches Hulu’s.
For context on Hulu’s changing offer, its page showed a promotional Hulu (With Ads) + Live TV rate of $49.99 for one month, followed by $99.99 per month, for an offer ending October 26, 2026. That promotion may be eligibility-dependent; check the current terms rather than treating it as a standard rate.

Check local channels and sports before subscribing
A national channel list cannot tell you whether a service carries the station or regional sports network you need at your address. YouTube TV says local lineups depend on area and recommends checking availability by ZIP code. Its page also reports local network coverage in over 98% of U.S. TV households and availability in over 99.5%; those are YouTube TV’s provider-reported figures, not independently verified measurements.
- Write down the local broadcast stations and sports networks you consider essential.
- Enter your ZIP code in each service’s lineup or availability checker.
- Confirm that the exact package includes those channels, then check blackout restrictions for the games you follow.
- Compare the full recurring cost, including required add-ons, rather than comparing one service’s base plan with another service’s expanded package.

- DVR: Check what can be recorded, how long recordings remain available, and whether the service distinguishes live recordings from on-demand viewing. Hulu’s advertised unlimited DVR is for live recordings, not on-demand shows.
- Simultaneous viewing: Compare the number of streams and account arrangements against how many people watch at once. YouTube TV lists three simultaneous streams and up to six household accounts on its main plan.
- Ads: Check which parts of a package include ad breaks. Hulu says live and VOD content through its Live TV plan has ads; do not assume an included library has the same ad experience as a separate on-demand subscription.
- Promotions and renewals: Compare the recurring price after any introductory offer, and confirm eligibility and end dates. A discounted first month is not a like-for-like monthly price.
- Device compatibility: Check the service’s supported-device list for the TV or player you already own. YouTube TV lists select Roku players and TVs, among other devices; that does not mean every model supports every service. A separate streaming player is only necessary if your existing equipment is unsupported.
How to choose an on-demand replacement
The available service details do not establish a current, comprehensive ranking of standalone on-demand services by catalog, price, simultaneous streams, or download terms. No single service can be named as the best Hulu library replacement without checking the shows and films you care about and the current plan details.
- List a handful of must-watch titles and search each candidate service’s current catalog. Availability can vary by title and over time.
- Compare the plan’s monthly cost and ad tier, plus any profile or stream limits that matter to your household.
- If you need offline viewing, confirm that the specific titles are downloadable on your devices. Hulu notes that downloads are available only for select titles on supported devices, so do not assume a whole library is available offline.
- Add the cost of any separate live-TV service if you still need local channels, live sports, news, or DVR.
Prices, offers, and availability can change
Service pages are snapshots, not guarantees of future pricing or availability. YouTube TV’s page accessed October 4, 2026, also displayed first-time-user offers ending August 26, 2026; that offer date had passed, so it should not be treated as a current discount. Check each provider’s current terms, local lineup, device support, and package details before subscribing.
