For better battery longevity, enable your OnePlus phone’s smart or optimized charging feature if it offers one. For more runtime during the day, check battery usage first, adjust app controls selectively, and use Battery Saver when needed. The exact setting names and paths vary by model and OxygenOS version, so don’t assume one menu path applies to every OnePlus phone.
Start with your phone’s exact settings
OnePlus uses different names, options, and menu paths across models and software versions. For example, the Nord CE4 Lite’s OxygenOS 14 manual places Smart charging at Settings > Battery > Battery health > Smart charging. The OnePlus Open manual describes Optimised charging in a different battery settings section. If you cannot find a setting, consult the manual for your model rather than assuming your phone is missing a feature. OnePlus provides manuals and support information on its official support page.

Enable smart or optimized charging for everyday charging
Smart or optimized charging is intended to reduce battery aging by adapting how the phone charges. The Nord CE4 Lite OxygenOS 14 manual says, “Your device learns your charging habits and adjusts charging patterns accordingly to slow down battery aging.” It describes the phone potentially pausing at 80% overnight and resuming shortly before you usually wake.
The OnePlus Open manual calls its feature Optimised charging and lists Off, At night, and All day. It says the phone can wait to finish charging past 80% until just before you are expected to use it. These are examples from those two manuals, not a guarantee that every OnePlus has the same feature, labels, or behavior. If your routine changes or you need a full charge earlier, check the options available on your phone.

Check battery usage before restricting apps
Look at battery details first to identify what is actually consuming power. An Android 12 OnePlus guide describes usage for today, yesterday, and the day before, including foreground and background activity. Newer or different models may present other time ranges and controls.
Some manuals document options such as Optimize battery use or App battery management; older software may offer per-app choices including Optimize, Intelligent Control, or don’t optimize. These labels are not universal. Consider changing controls for apps that show unusually high usage, but avoid restricting background work you rely on, such as timely notifications or ongoing sync.

Use Battery Saver when you need extra runtime
Battery Saver is a short-term runtime tool, not a fix for battery health or every cause of drain. OnePlus manuals describe it as turning off some device features and restricting apps to extend battery life. Depending on the model, you may be able to turn it on manually and choose to have it turn off when the phone is fully charged. Expect some behavior to change while it is active.
Leave High performance mode off unless you need it
The OnePlus Open manual says High performance mode keeps the system in high-performance mode and increases power consumption. If battery life matters more than that performance setting, leave it off. Its availability and behavior on other OnePlus models are not established by that manual.

Why there is no universal battery-life number
The official manuals describe intended behavior, but they do not establish a measured percentage of extra battery life or a specific increase in battery cycles from these settings. Results depend on the phone, software, usage, and charging routine; treat smart charging as an aging-management feature, not a quantified guarantee.
