You can often improve OnePlus battery life without disabling everything: identify what is using power, limit background activity only for nonessential apps, and choose a lower refresh rate if your phone offers one. Keep timely alerts and important background work enabled, and use Battery Saver when you need a reserve rather than assuming it preserves every feature.
1. Find what is draining the battery
Start with the phone’s battery-use details instead of applying restrictions across the board. OnePlus manuals describe this screen as showing which processes used the most power since a full charge. On different devices, look under Settings > Battery for Battery usage or similar details; if the path differs, search Settings for “Battery” or “Battery usage.” OnePlus 9 User Manual
Look for apps with unusually high use relative to how much you used them. A navigation or video app may be expected to use more power during active use; an app that remains highly active when you are not using it is a better candidate for adjustment.
2. Restrict background use selectively
For apps that do not need timely alerts or continuous background work, review their battery-management settings and consider limiting background activity or applying the available optimization. The exact labels and effects vary by OnePlus model and software version, so check the description shown on your phone.

Do not apply the strictest setting to every app. OnePlus warns in its OnePlus 10 Pro manual that disabling an app’s foreground activity may cause it not to work properly and may delay notifications. Keep the behavior you rely on for messaging, calls, navigation, security, accessibility, wearables, and work apps. 3. Choose a refresh rate that fits your use
If your phone has a refresh-rate control, Standard is a practical battery-conscious setting for everyday use. OnePlus says higher refresh rates use more battery, while its OxygenOS 14 manual describes Standard as suitable for everyday use with better battery performance.

- Open Settings > Display & brightness > Screen refresh rate on devices with the documented OxygenOS 14 menu.
- Choose Standard for a battery-conscious everyday profile. Choose High if smoother motion matters more to you.

4. Use Battery Saver when you need a reserve
Battery Saver can extend runtime, but it does so by restricting some device features and apps. OnePlus manuals also use the label Power saving mode on some devices. Depending on your phone, you may be able to turn it on manually or set a battery-level threshold. Check your device’s description of the mode before relying on it for uninterrupted alerts or background activity. 5. Check optional performance and sleep settings
High performance mode
If enabled, High performance mode increases power consumption. Turn it off if you do not need the extra performance, or keep it when performance is more important than runtime.

Sleep standby optimization
OnePlus describes Sleep standby optimization as reducing power use and notifications while you sleep. It may suit an overnight profile if fewer notifications are acceptable; do not depend on it for alerts you need during that period. 6. Separate daily runtime from long-term battery health
Optimized charging helps manage aging
The OnePlus Open manual describes Optimised charging as learning charging habits and delaying completion beyond 80% until shortly before expected use, with selectable modes. Maximum capacity can reveal wear
Check Battery health if runtime remains poor after you have addressed avoidable app and display use. The OnePlus Open manual defines Maximum capacity as an estimate compared with when the battery was new; a lower estimate means less use time between charges. Software settings cannot restore capacity lost through battery wear. If the estimate is materially reduced, check service options for your exact model and use qualified service rather than assuming a generic replacement battery will fit. OnePlus Open User Manual

Search Settings for “Battery,” “Battery usage,” or “Screen refresh rate” when a listed path does not match your phone. The manuals do not establish a guaranteed percentage gain or number of extra hours from these changes.
