First check the camera app’s event history or playback at the time in question. If the event is there, troubleshoot alert delivery on the app and phone. If it is missing, investigate detection, schedules, connectivity, and storage.
First, find out whether the camera recorded the event
Open the camera app’s event history, timeline, or playback and check the time when you expected activity. The exact label varies by app. This separates a recording or detection problem from a phone-notification problem:
- The event appears: The camera detected and recorded something. Focus on the app’s alert settings and the phone’s ability to receive notifications.
- The event is absent: Check detection and recording settings, schedules, activity zones, camera connectivity, and storage. A phone notification setting cannot restore an event the camera never captured.
Netatmo, TP-Link, and EZVIZ all direct users to check the app’s timeline, detection status, or Event page as part of troubleshooting. The terminology and available views depend on the camera and app.
If the event or video is missing
Check detection, recording, schedules, and zones
In the camera app, confirm the relevant activity type is enabled and that recording is enabled for it. Review any recording or detection schedule against the time of the missed event. If the app uses activity or alert zones, make sure the area where the activity occurred falls inside a zone that is being monitored. An event can be filtered out by a schedule or zone even when the camera is working.

For example, Netatmo recommends checking the notification schedule and Alert Zones for its Smart Outdoor Camera. EZVIZ recommends clearing schedules as a troubleshooting test. These are product-specific suggestions, not universal menu paths; use the settings available for your model.
Confirm the camera is online
Check the app’s connection or signal status. A camera with a weak or unstable Wi-Fi connection may fail to communicate reliably. EZVIZ recommends checking signal strength and, if it is poor, reducing distance from the router or obstacles and interference between the camera and router. Follow the camera maker’s guidance for your model and installation.

Inspect local storage before replacing a card
If the camera records to a microSD card, check the app’s storage status and verify that the card is seated, recognized, initialized in the app, and supported by the camera. Some models do not support the recording mode you expect, so confirm that the camera supports local recording and the selected schedule.
Card requirements vary by model. As one specific example, EZVIZ’s C8W Pro 3K guidance calls for a Class 10 or UHS-I card, FAT32 for capacities below 64 GB, and exFAT for capacities of 64 GB and above. Do not apply those specifications to another camera without checking its documentation. The same EZVIZ guidance recommends checking installation and card status, initializing the card in the EZVIZ app, and trying another card if needed. Back up clips you want to keep before formatting; formatting can erase stored footage.

Check whether all-day recording is supported
Continuous or all-day recording may depend on the camera model and its power and storage configuration. EZVIZ says its all-day recording instructions require a supported model and an inserted, initialized card. For some of its battery cameras, the feature may require a supported “Power Plugged-in mode” and the camera to remain plugged in. Check your model’s documentation rather than assuming that every camera can record continuously.
Update the app and camera firmware
If detection, schedules, connection, and storage look correct, check for updates to the camera app and firmware, then test again. EZVIZ includes update checks in its recording and card troubleshooting guidance. Use the update process provided for your camera; available steps differ by product.

If the event is recorded but no phone alert arrives
Enable alerts in both the camera app and phone settings
Push alerts generally have two permission layers: an alert setting inside the camera app and the phone’s system permission for that app. Check that the relevant event alerts are enabled in the camera app, then allow notifications for it in iOS or Android settings. A system permission can block alerts even when the camera app is configured to send them.
Check schedules and interruption modes
Review the camera app’s notification schedule, if it has one, and test with an always-on or all-day schedule where available. Also check whether Do Not Disturb, an iOS Focus mode, or an Android interruption setting is silencing or limiting notifications. Names and controls vary across phone versions and manufacturers.

Check internet access on the camera and phone
The phone needs a working Wi-Fi or cellular connection to receive a push notification. The camera also needs connectivity to report events through its service. If alerts are delayed or intermittent, check both devices’ connections rather than assuming the phone alone is at fault.
On Android, review background and battery restrictions
Android phones and manufacturer interfaces can restrict apps running in the background. Review battery optimization, background activity, and auto-start controls for the camera app, if those settings are available on your phone. The location and names differ by manufacturer, so avoid relying on a single menu path that may not exist on your device. eufy, Netatmo, and TP-Link all identify background or battery restrictions as possible causes of delayed or missing alerts.
For Tapo and Kasa on Android, TP-Link also recommends checking Google Play services and Android updates and using its FCM diagnostics. TP-Link says a “Not connected” FCM status indicates that the FCM service is unavailable and recommends contacting Google Support. This diagnostic applies to Tapo and Kasa, not every camera app.
Use the app’s notification test if available
If the camera app includes a push-notification self-check, run it. EZVIZ recommends its push self-check when alerts are visible on its Event page but do not arrive while the app is in the background. If the test does not resolve the issue, collect the app log if the vendor requests it and contact that camera maker’s support.
