Autoplay may refer to previews, the next episode, or a suggested video; content ratings and profile locks are separate controls. Check each device the child uses, since settings may not carry across devices.
Before you change settings
- Identify the autoplay behavior: Decide whether you want to stop trailers and previews, the next episode, or a related video after playback.
- Choose the child’s profile or account: Restrictions and playback preferences are commonly attached to a profile.
- Set viewing limits separately: Turning off autoplay does not block mature content. Use age ratings, child modes, or other available restrictions.
- Check every device: A setting may behave differently across a TV, phone, tablet, or computer. YouTube explicitly notes that autoplay preferences can vary by device.
Turn off autoplay and set controls on each service
YouTube
For a regular YouTube viewer, open a video and switch Autoplay off in the player. In the mobile app, you can also go to Settings → Autoplay. On a TV, open YouTube’s Settings and choose Autoplay. Check each device separately because the preference can differ by device. If the next video is about to start, you can cancel it as a temporary measure. YouTube’s autoplay instructions describe the controls. [c001]
For a supervised child account, sign in with the linked parent account and open YouTube Family Center. Select the child’s profile and turn on Disable autoplay. You can also manage it in Family Link: select the child, then choose Controls → Content restrictions → YouTube. YouTube says a child cannot turn autoplay back on after a parent disables it. [c002]
YouTube Kids has separate profile settings for content level, search, history, and other controls. Autoplay may remain controllable by the child unless a parent turns it off. A YouTube Kids profile is not the same as a supervised account in the regular YouTube app. YouTube Kids parental controls explains its options. [c003]

Netflix
Netflix separates Autoplay Previews from Autoplay Next Episode. Turn off the setting you want for the relevant profile:
- Mobile: Open My Netflix, tap the profile name, choose Manage Profiles, select the profile, and toggle the relevant autoplay control.
- Web: Go to Account → Profiles, choose the profile, open Playback settings, and switch off the relevant control.
Netflix says changes update automatically. If a device does not reflect the change, switch profiles or sign out and back in to refresh it. Some older TVs and streaming devices do not support preview autoplay. See Netflix’s autoplay settings guidance and profile and playback settings help. [c004] [c005]

Disney+
While editing a Disney+ profile, turn off autoplay if you want to prevent the next episode from starting automatically. Disney+ also offers profile content ratings, Junior Mode, profile PINs, restrictions on creating profiles, and a control for unrated or live content. Manage these options through a supported web browser or the mobile app. Content above a profile’s rating is hidden while browsing and searching, though profile settings may not affect promotions.

Prime Video
Prime Video’s current help guidance says an Account PIN is required to bypass viewing restrictions and controls for purchases or subscriptions. Ofcom’s UK review also describes PIN protection for purchases and rentals, age-related viewing controls, and autoplay settings.
Because the available instructions do not establish a current, universal menu path for every device and region, open Prime Video’s account and device settings and confirm the controls shown in your version. Use its viewing restrictions and PIN options for content or purchase limits rather than relying on autoplay alone. [c006] [c007]

If a setting does not seem to take effect
- Confirm that you edited the profile the child is actually using.
- Check the same behavior on each device where the child watches. YouTube specifically says autoplay preferences can differ by device.
- For Netflix, switch profiles or sign out and back in if the device has not refreshed the updated setting.
- On Prime Video, verify the controls currently displayed for your region and device rather than assuming another device’s menu path applies.
