Set up the OBSBOT Tail 2 according to where its video will go: use the Web UI for general encoding settings, Obsbot Start or Obsbot Live for direct RTMP streaming, and Media Settings for SRT. HDMI resolution is configured separately from network-stream encoding. The right resolution, frame rate, and bitrate depend on your receiving platform, connection, orientation, and production setup; OBSBOT’s guides do not prescribe one universal combination.
Choose an output path before changing settings
Decide how the Tail 2 will reach your audience or production system. Direct RTMP sends the stream to a platform using its stream URL and key. SRT sends video to a compatible receiver, but it disables several other output modes. NDI and RTSP are network-output options, while UVC uses USB and HDMI supplies a separate video output. These paths are not interchangeable: choose the one your receiving software or equipment supports.
Set general encoding in the Web UI
For the Tail 2’s general video encoding controls, open its Web UI and go to Network. The guide identifies H.264 format, resolution, frame rate, and bitrate as configurable controls. OBSBOT describes browser-based access methods and specifies that the camera and browser should be on the same network for those methods. See the OBSBOT Tail 2 user guide.
Choose values that fit the destination and the full signal path: the platform’s ingest requirements, available network connection, intended orientation, and any production software or hardware downstream. The guide does not establish a universally recommended resolution, frame rate, or bitrate, so avoid treating any single combination as suitable for every stream. Confirm that the receiving platform or software accepts the selected output.

Configure a direct RTMP stream
OBSBOT documents direct RTMP setup through Obsbot Start or Obsbot Live. Before configuring the camera, get the stream URL and stream key from the receiving platform. Then add an RTMP connection in the app and start the configured stream. Follow OBSBOT’s RTMP instructions for the app you are using: official Tail 2 streaming guide.
In the documented Obsbot Live flow, the app asks whether to enable Full Recording while streaming. This is an available choice in that flow; OBSBOT’s materials do not establish that every RTMP workflow offers the same recording controls.

Use SRT only when its output constraints fit
SRT is a distinct output mode, not an extra stream to layer over the other outputs. OBSBOT warns that while SRT is enabled, UVC, RTSP, NDI, and Live Stream are unavailable. The guide says SRT works over Wi-Fi or a wired connection. Make sure those restrictions match your production plan before enabling it.
In Media Settings, set the SRT frame rate, resolution, and other SRT parameters. Configure the receiver to use the complementary caller/listener role: one end calls and the other listens. The receiving software or system must support the matching SRT setup. Refer to OBSBOT’s SRT instructions for the documented configuration.

Configure HDMI separately from network encoding
HDMI output resolution is not the same control as the Web UI’s network encoding settings. OBSBOT Center’s update dated November 26, 2025, documents HDMI choices of Auto, 4K, 1080P, and 1080i, and says the feature requires firmware 7.2.9.1. The update notes two constraints: 4K is not supported in portrait orientation, and when the maximum recording/NDI/RTSP/SRT frame rate is 30, 29.97, or 25, HDMI supports 1080i. The Web UI’s Settings interface can show SD card capacity and format the card. The cited guide does not provide card speed-class or capacity recommendations, recording bitrates, or recording-duration estimates, so check your own recording requirements rather than assuming a particular card or duration is supported.

Before a production, confirm that the Tail 2 and controlling browser are on the same network where required, that the selected firmware and software expose the settings you need, and that the receiving platform or system shows a usable preview. OBSBOT’s download page lists the Tail 2 User Manual, updated June 11, 2025, and firmware v7.2.13.1, updated June 8, 2026; listings can change, so check the Tail 2 downloads page for current files.
